morning babble / Friday 09-20-24
DISCLAIMER:
This is the scribble that leads to the babble.
Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.
When all else fails: there’s video!
(“Records” song)
Off the Weezer Summer album – that’s the song “Records”.
But now, it’s time to go Autumn
(“Can’t Dance, Don’t Ask Me” song)
(Morning Babble Intro)
Happy 1st Day of Autumn Weekend . . . it’s officially here . . . Sunday. I am so ready.
Actually, the first victim of Pumpkin Spice creamer went down today. Don’t worry – we have another. Don’t be silly. But this stuff is a problem. I typically want my coffee black – no cream, no sugar. Sumatra. Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. A Dark Roast. But with this – I turn into Buddy the Elf when he’s eating that candy breakfast. (video)
Did I just do a Christmas reference? Too soon? Well, we can now say that Winter is the next season. Don’t worry – I won’t rush it. I love me the Pumpkin Spice Autumn Season.

New Music Friday:
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
- Was that “Too Fast” (clip) For the past several years, Future has pretty much teamed up with someone else on his music or whole albums themselves, like with Lil Uzi Vert (“Drankin N Smokin” clip) and just this past year with the two albums and Metro Boomin (“Like That”). But now, he dropped a 17 track album called Mixtape Pluto with no features, he’s going all the way solo on this one, first time since 2016. Nevertheless, the song being pushed on Spotify is track #6 called “Too Fast” (clip)
- Creeping closer and closer to October 4th which is the full drop of Jake Bugg’s album called A Modern Day Distraction. Today, we receive the final taster, the new single is called “I Wrote the Book.” (clip) That’s release number 4 off the upcoming album. I actually really liked that one song that went like . . . (clip) “All Kinds of People” with Jake Bugg – I really like that one a lot. It’s actually on my Wake Up playlist. Play a little more. (clip)
- I’m excited for this one – coming in November – the 22nd to be exact. Josh Tillman aka Father John Misty is coming out with his 6th studio album called Mahashmashana. – yeah I had to practice that. (clip) Via a press release that I didn’t see, but Pitchfork did – Mahāśmaśāna (महामशान) is a Sanskrit word meaning “great cremation ground.” We’re learning something new every day. Let’s get to the new song (clip) Called “Screamland” and it’s actually not the first single released from the album. (shocking clip) 2nd Christmas reference – sorry – anyway, the actual 1st release was experienced on Father John Misty’s album: Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams and My Dreams Said to Crawl – the single was “I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All” (clip)
- That song is over 8 1/2 minutes long – that’s like 2 songs for the release of 1. Several quick hits of new music: Gwen Stefani (clip) she is due to release her fifth studio album this November on the 15th. But we did get the album’s first single – called “Somebody Else’s” – it’s a brutal breakup song. She’s obviously not too happy with the Bush guy (clip) but Gwen is all smiles now with her hubby, Blake Shelton // Neon Trees – a whole new album is out – 12 songs spread out over 40 minutes of new music all nicely packaged under the title: Sink Your Teeth – it’s their first album in 4 years – go and enjoy // and finally, a band that I’ve been following for awhile – The Talbott Brothers – have announced that their new album Borderlands will be out next year on Friday, May 2nd. That’s a little bit of distance. Thankfully, we got our first taste of that album already with the new song “Kerosene” (clip)
Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
Be sure to check out the playlist on Spotify. As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from Keith Urban (who does have a new album out), Da Baby, Vienna Vienna, and Nessa Barrett (that’s that “Dirty Little Secret” song with the fun video, right), and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
Please subscribe on YouTube and spread the Babble wherever you can – Thank you!
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“I never feel guilty about liking music.” – by Rivers Cuomo (FYI – lead singer of Weezer)
