morning babble / Friday 10-18-24

DISCLAIMER:

This is the scribble that leads to the babble.

Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.

When all else fails: there’s video!

Was that blood on the car? That was blood, right?

(“How To Hide A Body” clip)

(Morning Babble Intro)

Happy Mid-October Weekend. It’s going to be Turkey Day before you know it. (Snoopy clip) Does anyone else find it disturbing how excited Woodstock got about a cooked Turkey (quick clip) Mmmm – eat me some turkey – chill out there Woodstock. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving – FYI – If you are interested in the vinyl soundtrack, it’s been available for like a year now. It’s also on all the digital platforms too.

(“Weekend at Bernies” clip)

That’s right – I need to talk about that song from the very beginning from Daisy Grenade (“How To Hide A Body” clip) Called “How To Hide A Body” – I actually googled that initially – probably not the best idea – we’ll see if I’m still here for Missed Music Monday. Anyway, I actually talked about this band last month when they covered the song “Polly” (clip) As I said back then, that’s actually one of my all-time favorites from Nirvana.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • 1st up – we haven’t gotten an album out of this guy in 7 years (“Witness” clip) Benjamin Booker. I’m excited about this one for many reasons. For one – I loved his 1st album from 10 years ago (“Violent Shiver” clip) So much so, I put it on my vinyl wish list. Totally forgot about it. I’m sorry – I’m totally geeking on this. Coming for you, Rainbow. That’s my place in Newark, DE that I get my vinyl – Rainbow Records – always support local. Let’s play his new song (clip) “LWA in the Trailer Park” is the first release from Benjamin Booker. Album is called – Lower – and will fully drop next year on January 24th
  • (“APT” clip) That’s catchy with a good hook. And the title of the song – “APT” – is a reference to a Korean drinking activity known as the apartment game. (“APT” clip) Bruno Mars apparently played that game with Rosé of BLACKPINK and she then tried to kiss him – That sounds like a fun game to play. (“APT” clip) Rosé is opening up the next chapter of her life as a solo artist, but she did do this song as a duet with Bruno. It will be a part of her album that comes out on December 6th – 12 tracks and called Rosie
  • (“Shadows” clip) Over each of the summertime months – that would be 3 – we received a song from Bryce Fox (“Butterfly”) Today, he packaged those songs up with 2 others for an EP called – The Butterfly (“Other People”) That’s the song being pushed on Spotify and it’s called “Other People.” So far, I’m still thinking that my favorite from Bryce Fox is “Drip” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Final album from the Japandroids was released. Total of 10 songs in all – several of which we got to experience over the past couple months. But – this is it for them – no more albums – go enjoy the Japandroids last one – I guess it’s not Swan Song, but Swan Album: Fate & Alcohol // Talked about this on Tuesday (New Music Tuesday) “She Cleans Up” by Father John Misty – the whole album arrives next month on the 22nd. // Tyler, the Creator has confirmed that he’ll release a new album called Chromakopia. Will it arrive next year? No – it’s actually less than 2 weeks away – Monday, October 28th. Great – now I’m gonna have to make a New Music Monday card / Ho, Ho, Ho/ That’s your Holiday Music warning – new vinyl opportunity for a release that actually came out back in 2014 – Barenaked for the Holidays – that’s sounds like fun for everybody – who doesn’t want some Barenaked Ladies under the Christmas tree – tell Nana that’s the name of the band (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

Be sure to check out the playlist on Spotify. As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from Fiona Apple, Panda Bear, and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Please subscribe on YouTube and spread the Babble wherever you can – Thank you!
