(New Music Friday Intro)

Happy Weekend! This week’s new music is bountiful and plentiful – there’s a lot of good stuff. We’ve got The Lumineers, Ben Rector, Japanese Breakfast, Noshows, Let’s begin!

(Countdown Video)

New Music Friday:

  • I know – I’ve showed this before, but please read along: “I Belong with you. You Belong with Me. You’re my Sweetheart.” (clip) That’s the Lumineers and their song “Ho Hey.” My wife bought me this for Christmas one year. Despite us considering “Ho Hey” like one of “our songs.” It was a while afterwards before I realized it (clip) BUT – that was like 2012 – we do have new music today from this band (clip) “Same Old Song” is track #1 off of their upcoming Valentine’s Day release of Automatic. Also, quick note, but I’m not seeing this now, but Spotify was giving a 30 to 45 second preview of each track. Loved that tease. I went back for it today and it’s all gone. Gotta wait until February 14th. (“Hey”)
  • This guy is a favorite of mine, so I’ve talked about him before and his “feel good” music (clip) Mr. Ben Rector has already given us 3 new songs from his upcoming album: The Richest Man In The World – I just played the titled track. Today though, we get a 4th (clip) That’s some good dancing there. I can relate. Maybe I’ll – that’s right, we need subscribers. I won’t. Let’s go to him one more time – song is called “I Got It Bad for You” (clip)
  • Googling this band – I learned that when it comes to the traditional Japanese breakfast, it is a combination of rice, healthy and omega-rich proteins, as well as some soup and pickles. Definitely need to brush your teeth AFTER breakfast. (clip) FYI – Japanese Breakfast is a band who’s 4th album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), will be released early Spring on March 21st – yeah, 1st day of Spring is the 20th. But today, we have single #1 “Orlando in Love” (clip) One more thing – Providing the backdrop to how this album was made – go read Crying In H Mart which is the memoir of Michelle Zauner who is Japanese Breakfast //
  • Several quick hits of new music: Franz Ferdinand returns with their first album in seven years. 35 minutes of new music spread out over 11 songs – all under the umbrella of an album title of – The Human Fear // The band – Noshows – is making a showing in the new year. I worked on that last night. I actually talked about this band last year when I explained how lead singer – Max Satow (Say-toe) described the band’s sound as being Indie-Hop. Out on all platforms – their new song “Let Me Sleep” (clip) And finally, we got our first taste of Mac Miller’s Balloonerism album which is due out in its entirety next Friday. Until then, we can enjoy the album’s first release “5 Dollar Pony Rides” (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

It’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
