new music weekend / Friday 03-28-25
(New Music Weekend Intro)
Happy Weekend – I’ve decided to change up my New Music Friday card with a new one – New Music Weekend, because it can be enjoyed all weekend long. Hopefully – “enjoyed” isn’t a stretch for too many of you. What’s coming up! Mo Mumford, New Fitz, and someone who had my #3 album of 2024.
(Countdown Video)
New Music Weekend:
- Mumford and Sons, the English folk-rock trio – used to be a quartet of fellas, but Marshall the Banjo player is gone now. Long story. So, with the new album, you’ll get more synthetic sounds for texture rather than old-time banjo. They’re still there though. (“Rushmere”) Rushmere is the group’s fifth studio album and first one in 7 years. Song being pushed on Spotify and I believe would appeal to FM Radio is “Caroline” (clip) Another good sound that I enjoyed off the album from the Mumford boys was a little more rock & roll with their song “Truth” (clip)
- First new song of 2025 has been delivered by Fitz and The Tantrums (“HandClap”) That’s not it. That’s “HandClap” from 2016 – a fun one to enjoy at any Fitz live show (“HandClap”) Back to the new music – not sure if a whole album is coming, but I’ll take whatever I can get from this band. (clip) The new song is about kicking free some memories of the past. You know the ones that just won’t go. It’s called “Ruin The Night.” (clip)
- At the end of 2024 – I did a Top 20 albums of 2024. At #3, it was All Born Screaming from St. Vincent (“Flea”) So good, I got it on vinyl, too. As I mentioned then and still do today, the song that I play way too much “Broken Man” (clip) Needless to say, when I heard that she released a new song she created for the horror comedy Death of a Unicorn – I was excited. Here it is “DOA” (clip)
- Several quick hits of new music: Like other pop stars, Arianna Grande has jumped on the ‘deluxe’ album bandwagon as she releases the deluxe version of her latest album Eternal Sunshine with the subtitle “Brighter Days Ahead” – you get 5 new songs on this deluxe album // Lil Durk is behind bars and has NOT been released yet. BUT – his management team was able to piece together a 20-track Deep Thoughts album from him that has been released. Can you listen to Spotify in jail? // If the pop stars can do it, so can the rock stars. Linkin Park will be releasing the deluxe version of their 2024 album, From Zero on May 16th. It appears that we’ll get 3 new songs from them, but today we do get one called “Up From The Bottom” (clip)
Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
