The Arrival of the Record Store Day List / New Music Friday: Inhaler, The Black Keys, Saba, renforshort, Lady Gaga

new music Friday / Friday 02-07-25

(New Music Friday Intro)

Before we get to the new music – I’m very pleased to announce that the list for all Record Store Day releases is out for all to see. Very exciting

(clip)

Alright, maybe not that exciting. Be sure to look for that commercial on Superbowl Sunday.

Back to the list, Stone Temple Pilots (“Sex Type Thing”) in 1994, they only had two albums out – Core and Purple (“Vaseline”) That’s more than enough to put on a killer show for all to enjoy again and again. (clip) For RSD 2025, STP will release vinyl of a 1994 New Haven concert. My wish list has begun. (clip) I’ll be putting together a separate video for Record Store Day 2025. In the meantime, we’ve got new music from Inhaler, The Black Keys, Saba, renforshort, and Lady Gaga,

(Countdown Video)

New Music Friday:

  • This past week, Inhaler shared their final preview of their new album Open Wide (clip) That song is called “Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah)” and it was actually their 4th song to be enjoyed prior to the Dublin quartet’s third album release (“Your House” clip) I’m sure the band is tired of hearing about this as well as their lead singer – Elijah Hewson, but you need to know (clip) That’s Elijah on the left of the cover of U2’s Songs of Experience from 2017. Why is he on there? His Dad is Bono (clip) Back to Inhaler though, album sounds good. I’ve only spun it through entirely once, but it was the last track that stuck with me and I went back to for this. Lucky track 13 – “Little Things” (clip)
  • Last year, The Black Keys released their 12th studio album called Ohio Players (“Beautiful People”) I really liked that album. So much so it was #18 on my Top 20 Countdown of 2024. I’ll provide links to those glorious video – don’t you worry. (clip) Today though, The Black Keys are already talking about another new album – like out later this year. It’s called No Rain, No Flowers AND we already get a taste of this mouth watering joy with the new release of “The Night Before” (clip)
  • Also, Top 20 Albums of 2024 Links: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3
  • My first experience with the musical sound of Saba was with his 2022 album – Few Good Things (clip) I realize he has early work – I was late to the party. I am so ready for this next one. Last October, we received a collaboration song from Saba and No ID called “How to Impress God” (clip) That was the first experience of their upcoming joint album, From the Private Collection – no official release date yet, but as the press release states “out soon.” I have a good feeling that means this year. Today, we can enjoy a little more of Saba and No ID with their 2nd release called “Woes of the World” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: renforshort had a performance with Audiotree Live that can now be experienced by us all. It’s a 17 minute, 6 song EP – wonderful ear candy to enjoy // Alex Warren, Emmaline, and Ben Rector – I like each of them and they each have new songs out today. Go get it. // As mentioned last week during New Music Friday, Lady Gaga released a new song which premiered during a commercial on Sunday night of the Grammys. Couldn’t play it for you then since we didn’t have it. But here it is – “Abracadabra” (clip) I won’t lie some of that video scared me. For some reason I had thoughts of Jim Carrey from that Lemony Snicket movie (clip) See.

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
