(New Music Friday Intro)

Happy Ides of March Weekend! We’ve got some New Music Friday coming up. I have to say that I felt so bad for my son the other night when he waited up until 12:01 AM Friday for the new music to drop (Christmas Story) But Santa didn’t deliver the as promised Playboi Carti album quite yet. Delays, delays, delays., Anymore though, artists are releasing music at all different times of the week. Back during my radio days – the new music arrived on Tuesdays. Last year, Tyler The Creator was determined to bring back New Music Tuesdays and dropped his latest album on a Tuesday in October last year. (clip) Coming up Playboi Carti after teasing us for nearly 4 year tease dropped an album, Chappell Roan – gone country? The National’s Matt Berninger and renforshort – I don’t have to pretend, I live her.

New Music Friday:

  • Playboi Carti released his sophomore studio album – Whole Lotta Red – back in 2020. (“Sky” clip) Not long after its release, Carti already began teasing up his third album which at that moment in time was titled “Narcissist.” However, then it changed to Music (“I Am Music” clip) and then yes to I Am Music but now it’s back to just Music. Even though the album says “I Am Music.” Hip Hop Soap Opera – we finally got ourselves a new Playboi Carti album with 30 tracks (“Good Credit”) Yup – I’ve been enjoying one of the songs that features Kendrick Lamar called “Good Credit.” Another one that got my attention and features Travis Scott is called “Philly” (clip)
  • One of my most favorite bands right now is The National (clip) Unfortunately, they do NOT have a new album coming out. However, how about their frontman – Matt Berninger (“My Eyes are T-shirts”) From his first solo album – that song is called “My Eyes are T-shirts.” I’m excited to say that his 2nd Solo Album – Get Sunk – is arriving May 30th. (“Bonnet of Pins”) Release #1 of the 10 track album. Song is called “Bonnet of Pins” and I want to hear a little bit more of it – thank you (“Bonnet of Pins”)
  • During the very first New Music Friday of 2025, I talked about how in November – Henrik teamed up with GRAHAM for an entire album together called Cedarcliff. (“Call My Name”) Then, on January 3rd, they each released a song of their very own. Well, they did it again. Henrik released “Take A Trip” (clip) while GRAHAM released “Take It For Granted” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: an album that I’ve been looking forward to hearing is finally about to drop – on Tuesday (flash New Music Tuesday card). See – as I mentioned at the very beginning, but I’ll take it. The album is called From the Private Collection of Saba and No ID and it’s from Saba and No ID – all 15 tracks will be available for our listening pleasure – on Tuesday. // Has Chappell Roan gone country? Her newest release “The Giver” sure sounds that way. You’ll have to go to brentevans.net and click on the Spotify playlist to go hear for yourself. Just an FYI – she has already stated that this shouldn’t be taken as a sign that there’s a full country album in her future. // Someone who I have talked about before and certainly follow now is renforshort – she released a new song “Pretend to Like Me” that has a very catchy hook to it (clip) I wanted to talk about one more song that got my attention and made me laugh out loud. It’s called “Sunset Blvd” from Selena Gomez and benny blanco (clip) The lyrics are “But I can’t wait to hold it, to hold that Big, big, hard heart! We’ll continue the song (clip) Definitely got my attention.

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
