Back in December, the movie Wonka came to theaters. As explained on Wikipedia, it was a musical fantasy film that tells the origin story of Willy Wonka of his early days as a chocolatier.
(Missed Music Monday opener)
Released on the same day as the movie Wonka, but not associated with the film nor on its soundtrack was a song from Jagwar Twin called: “Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa)”
(cut)
Missed Music Monday – obviously, I missed this song back in December. And then, digging into the music of Jagwar Twin, I missed a lot. Some good music there – it’s an alternative pop/rock sound that mixes in accordians and children’s choirs, as for what’s in the pipeline, nothing new since this “Bad Feeling” song.

(Look What You Made Me Do – Swift)
Twice a week at my local gym, I have workouts with female trainer. My little girl loves the fact that I get my butt kicked by a girl. What makes it even better – her name is Taylor.
(Look What You Made Me Do – Swift)
Morning Babble Intro
“Daddy, did you get your butt kicked again by a girl?” Yes – yes, Violet I did. Girl Power. To find a good “Girl Power” song, I searched Spotify and they did have a “Girl Power” Playlist. #2 was that Taylor Swift song “Look What You Made Me Do”. There’s was nearly 200 songs on that list. I looked through a bunch of Beyonce, there was Pink, Sheryl Crow – more on her later, and M.I.A. (“Bad Girls”) love me some M.I.A. – the song for the list was “Bad Girls” but I know that what she is probably best known for is the “Paper Planes” song (Paper Planes” cut) That’s off of M.I.A.’s album from 2007 titled Kala. I’ll give you another one to go listen to off of that same album: “World Town” (cut)
Little edgy – couldn’t play you the actual video. A little too much bang-bang. Good song though – I’ve run to that one, worked out to it. Hopefully, we’ll get some more new music from M.I.A. in the nearby future. In the meantime . . . (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)
Welcome to New Music Friday
New Music Friday:
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
As the days get closer to April 5th (clip) we slowly get more and more music from the album titled: Ohio Players. This will be the 12th studio album from the band – The Black Keys. We’ve already gotten the songs “Beautiful People” and “I Forgot to Be Your Lover.” Today, we have a 3rd release. The song is called “This Is Nowhere.” (clip)
Back in September of 1992, Mr. Peter Gabriel had his first release off of his sixth studio album called Us. The song was “Digging in the Dirt.” (clip) 32 years later, he does back-up singing as Ms. Sheryl Crow takes the lead to do a cover of the same song (clip) Again, that’s “Digging in the Dirt” – the latest single from one of last year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Sheryl Crow. It’s going to be on her 11th studio album called Evolution and all out in its full glory on March 29th.
(“Serotonin” Clip) That’s girl In red – like how she uses all lowercase for the name – and her song “Serotonin” which was pretty much the introduction to her sound. The album was from 2021. A new one is coming and she has called it: I’m Doing It Again Baby – comes out on April 12th. Today we have the album’s 2nd release, now again the album is I’m Doing It Again Baby. The new song – drop the I’m – and it’s called “Doing It Again Baby” (clip)
Several quick hits of new music: Bleachers just dropped an album in its entirety called – Bleachers. The song being pushed by Spotify is “Jesus is Dead.” Speaking of which – when’s Easter? // March 31st is when Peter Cottontail arrives – one day away from April Fool’s Day. I’m always amused when that does happen. Sorry – let’s transition back to music – Only God Was Above Us – the new album from Vampire Weekend to be released fully on April 5th. BUT – that’s not all that Vampire Weekend has been doing. Ahead of the album release, they have launched a podcast called Vampire Campfire // And lastly, Sam Beam aka Iron and Wine has a new album coming out on April 26th called Light Verse. We got a song today from that album called “All in Good Time” but – it’s duet that includes Fiona Apple (cut)
Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
Be sure to check out the playlist on Spotify and yes, as I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from Of Montreal, Gary Clark Jr., and Quavo – it’s a new stuff. I just didn’t get to it.

Tom Jones Drop of “It’s Not Unusual”
March 1st is Saint David’s Day – the feast day of Saint David, who is the patron saint of Wales. My name is Brent Evans and I’m Welsh. More importantly – so is Tom Jones.
Tom Jones Drop of “It’s Not Unusual”
Morning Babble intro
So, yes Happy St. David’s Day – the people of Wales have Tom Jones, Catherine Zeta Jones, Anthony Hopkins, and me – Brent Evans – close 4th. Not really. My parents will be happy that I acknowledge that – we’re the warm up to other big Saint’s Day coming up (clip) But – yes, Happy Weekend, Happy March! When I think March, I think baseball, spring, and my birthday – sorry, it’s in March. But definitely it always feels like spring. So, I put on shirt that looks like a picnic table cover.
New Music Friday:
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
First up . . . is there a doctor in the house? (Miley clip) I uh, I have naughty thoughts and I’m sorry. That’s Miley Cyrus teaming up with Pharrell Williams for the song “Doctor (Work It Out)” That reminds me. I do need to find a new doctor and set an appointment for a physical. Naughty thoughts (another Miley clip)
Whew – gonna try and cut back the “sexcitement” – like that, sex & excitement merged. I’m sorry that’s all I got. (“Von Dutch”) Geez – what was that? (“another clip) Deep breaths. I’m just going to read this. Charli XCX has released her new song “Von Dutch.” She also announced the title of her new album: Brat which will arrive in the summer, and has described this album as “a club record” – shake your booty to. Next.
(clip) Did she say “I need you to drive the nail”? She did. See where my head goes now – it’s all cluttered with thoughts (clip) That’s Annie Clark aka St. Vincent. She a has a new album arriving on April 26th – called All Born Screaming. I do like the sound of that song which is called “Broken Man.” – sorta how I’m feeling. We’ve gotta have something chill coming up. right?
(clip) Yes – that’s one of my favorites that I’ve talked about before – It’s Elbow with “Lover’s Leap” the first release off their Audio Vertigo album which is due out in its entirety on March 22nd – I can now say this month. Today, we get an even more upbeat sounding song that also rocks harder called “Balu” (clip)
Several quick hits of new music: First up – going local – for me at least. From Maryland, Local Souls have a 5 song EP out – please give it a listen. I went to UofD and acted with the singer, Jill. Gingham Shmuz days // Going local again – Natalie Giovan – released her first song to the outside world called “Your Moon” // and finally, Deeper Well – the new album from Kacey Musgraves is due out March 15. Title song was already released, but now we get “Too Good to Be True” (clip)
That’s a good Monday morning – making breakfast and making love.

Borrowing words from someone else in an attempt to spread happiness everywhere or at the very least – a reasonable range
I’ve got books at my house that I might give away when people visit. I’ve said this before and have had a couple people then say to me – “I never got a book.”

So, I made a new blue card
(Missed Music Monday opener)
Happy Monday! On Fridays – I enjoy a thing that I call New Music Friday – and try to review some of the best new music. I can’t touch it all though. Hence, I’m trying this little bit out: Missed Music Monday
(1) Couple weeks back – Gary Clark Jr. gave us four new studio tracks from his upcoming album, JPEG RAW, set for full release on March 22nd. But last week, we did get the 5th released track called “Alone Together” and features the jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold.
(2) Also, on Friday, we received songs from Selena Gomez and Machine Gun Kelly or MGK or as he stressed via the red carpet for everyone to call him now “Machine”. Maybe I didn’t “miss” those. Team Eminem, here.
(3) Donna Missal who I’m actually going to see next month at the Foundry in Philly came out with a 4-pack of acoustic songs under the EP title: Revel Acoustic Sessions

(Wretches and Kings cut)
Music is important to me in so many ways – it’s especially important with motivation
(Wretches and Kings cut)
(Morning Babble intro)
New Music Friday:
Happy Weekend! I’m always happy for New Music Friday. You just never know what new song or sound might resonate with you, connect with you. Be added to a playlist for you.
(Wretches and Kings cut)
That song is from Linkin Park and is called “Wretches and Kings.” It’s on one of my Spotify playlists made for running. FYI – new song out today from Linkin Park – more on that shortly. To this day though, I am always amazed how a song can transition me out of a funky mood or simply motivate me. Songs of Inspiration and Motivation. Wasn’t that the title of a Depeche Mode album (fact checking) Nope. I was thinking of Songs of Faith and Devotion – it rhymes, but that’s about it. (Walking in My Shoes cut) Not the most uplifting album from those Depeche Mode boys. Lots of depression and misery there – which is fine. I try to choose songs that are upbeat and happy during my paperwork days. Although, I was listening to the Sam Cooke radio channel on Spotify. (Another Saturday Night) – it’s upbeat but not all that happy. However, this part always makes me smile (2 chicks on my arm) “I’d be swinging two chicks on my arm” – oh yeah. You go Sam Cooke – one of the best singers ever. By far, one of my most favorite albums to put on. (song cut)
Let’s get into the new stuff though with New Music Friday
As always, I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
First up – as described in the local papers around here – Delaware State University alum, Sza (Kill Bill clip) That song “Kill Bill” gets good play on Spotify. Anyway – yes, Sza did go to Delaware State University or Del-State, where she planned to major in marine biology. But – not for long, she dropped out – I’m not picking. In fact, she sorta picks on her time spent there – I’ll provide the Peoples magazine link – Click here! She states “I drank Malibu and smoked weed every day. And slept.” That’s Del-State. (“Saturn” cut) – and that’s Sza’s new song release “Saturn” which if you watched the Grammy’s this year. You would have heard it during that long MasterCard commercial.
(Sex on Fire) Kings of Leon have announced their first new album with Capitol Records – FYI – this is their 9th studio album overall and it’s called – Can We Please Have Fun. The full drop happens on May 10th, but today – we can enjoy the new track: “Mustang” (clip)
Coming April 12th, Linkin Park will release their first career-spanning greatest hits album called: Papercuts. There will be 20 tracks which include songs like “In the End”, “Crawling” and, of course, their very first release ever “One Step Closer” (clip) However, it also includes what might be one of the final recordings of singer Chester Bennington, who we lost in 2017. We get the unreleased track “Friendly Fire” (clip)
Several quick hits of new music: Lil Durk has a new single out called “Old Days” – digs into everything – past life on the streets, battles with drug addiction, lost friends, but he also declares that “The Streets are Over.” Be sure to give it a listen // Jack Antonoff’s band Bleachers just released “Me before You” which is their 4th song of their upcoming self-titled album . . . called Bleachers // JT – Justin Timberlake – continues his comeback attempt since 2018’s Man of the Woods album. We get the 2nd release off of Everything I Thought It Was — fully out on March 15th – here’s “Drown” (clip)
Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
