Will Taylor see a Travis shadow at the Grammys? / new music friday: Ben Rector, Donna Missal, Pet Shop Boys / Ozzy Quote

morning babble / Friday 02-02-24

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

(Bill Murray Clip)

Happy Groundhog Day Weekend – Wonder if there are places that celebrate all weekend – you know drink every time that you see your shadow? Non-stop showing of Bill Murray.

(Bill Murray Clip)

Morning Babble Opener

For those who don’t know – Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil did NOT see his shadow which means an early spring is thankfully on the way. If the rodent news doesn’t interest you – it’s also a Grammy Weekend – which means we don’t get away from Taylor Swift – I’m not trying to by the way, but some people apparently are. We do . . . sorta get away from Travis Kelce who will NOT be at the Grammys – apparently, it’s a travel day for this Super Bowl thingy that he’s got to do. I’m a little scared to even bring up Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce because of all these conspiracy theories flying around. All I have to say about that – “Be Best”er than that. (I didn’t say that part in the video . . . maybe it wasn’t so so bad?) (Swift clip)

Alright – if you don’t believe in either of those Groundhog or Grammys festivities then just Happy Weekend and let’s get into NEW MUSIC FRIDAY!

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Donna Missal – this girl can sing (clip) and she’s back with a new song (Black Sabbath clip). Alright, so it’s a cover song of Black Sabbath’s “Changes”, but it’s a new song for her (clip) and it’s also in the movie – Scrambled – which is in theatres now. Speaking of Black Sabbath, couple weeks ago, their lead guy who goes by Ozzy Osbourne (clip) he announced no more touring, which is probably a good thing – his recent tours they propped him up in front of the mic like some sort of cardboard cutout. Donna Missal though – she is touring. Actually I’m going to see her next month in Philly at the Foundry.
  • (West End Girls cut) That’s old Pet Shop Boys but they do have some new Pet Shop Boys out. Initially, I was going to say since when? But – apparently back in 2020, they released an album called Hotspot – I apologize but it was not or never on my radar. Today though, we get a new single from their upcoming album called – Nonetheless. Full drop is on April 26th. The song “Loneliness” is here today (clip)
  • Last year on March 29th, Mr. Ben Rector performed live at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. As mentioned, a couple weeks ago, the Ryman Auditorium is one of the most iconic music stages and has been around since 1881. A whole lot of people have performed on its stages. So, Ben Rector is capturing this memory with maybe a live album? I know that we got a one live single called “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” (clip) I loved the fact that he kept that part in with the song (clip)
  • Another live album that appears to be in the works but not from Nashville and its Ryman Auditorium is from Shinedown – today we get the live version of “A Symptom of Being Human” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Last week, I mentioned how we had a snippet (like 20 seconds) of the new Billy Joel song “Turn the Lights Back On” – well, we now have the full song of 3 minutes and 59 seconds // Mike Shinoda released an album containing a new reinterpretation of the songs “Already Over” and “In My Head” – ties in with @EndelSound, which is “personalized soundscapes to help you focus, relax, and sleep.” // As Porno For Pyros get ready for their “Horns, Thorns en Halos Farewell Tour,” they have been releasing new music along the way. Today we get “Little Me” (clip)

Billy Joel cut (Scenes from an Italian Restaurant)

You always remember your first. 🙂 For me that was Billy Joel – what did you think that I was going to say?

Billy Joel cut (Piano Man)

Morning Babble Opener

Yes – Happy Weekend! If you want to add some other extra-curricular adjectives in there – go for it. I won’t hold you back.

Woke up today and WOW – very excited at some of the New Music that I saw. Several surprises of Brent music too!

Real quick though – yes – Billy Joel was the first concert that I ever went to. In Philly at the Spectrum which is the last location that my beloved Flyers ever won a Stanley Cup. That building is of course gone now. (body check) Back to Billy. We don’t have new music today, but we will actually get new music from him next Thursday. Song is called “Turn the Lights Back On” and then a few nights later, he’ll take the stage at the Grammy Awards in LA. He has teased us with a clip (play what I can). That’s it. It’s only 30 seconds worth and it’s mainly credits, but the whole song – next Thursday.

Before we get onto the main course of New Music Friday – I do have a couple things to address. Shoes. I posted about new running shoes and only showed the boxes. People reached out and were frustrated. They wanted specifics. Today – I’ll show the Hokas, because that’s what I ran in today. They are the new Mach X.

Also – SIGN UP!!!!!! (You can do it!)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • So, as we patiently await for the new Billy song, we do have JT delivering today (clip) That’s Mr. Justin Timberlake with his latest song “Selfish”. New album Everything I Thought I Was is being delivered on March 15th. For this album, he claims that he recorded 100 Songs for and had to filter that down to 18 – claims that it’s his best work. I’ll tell you his best work (Have you naked by the end of this song) That line always gets me. That’s confidence.
  • (clip of Smooth criminal) Remember them? That’s Alien Ant Farm and they have announced their first new album in nearly a decade, ~mAntras~. And they do have a new song out that sorta has their classic sound. song is called “So Cold” (clip)
  • Tajin – tuh*heen. Tajin is a spice mix made up of salt, lime, and chilies. In Spanish that means “thunder or smoke”. I love it around the rim of a Margarita glass. Why am I talking about this? Here’s “Spicy Margarita” (clip) And yes – that’s the dynamic duo of Michael Buble and Jason Derulo. Who saw that one coming? Probably the same person that saw a new song coming from Heidi Klum
  • (Heidi cut) That’s right “Sunglasses at Night” from the former Mrs. Seal. Is that right to say? (Seal cut)
  • Several quick hits of new music and it’s all Brent music: Elbow (point to it) have announced a new album, AUDIO VERTIGO which is out March 22nd, and shared its first single, “Lovers’ Leap” // Alkaline Trio’s new album is all out // Gary Clark Jr. is back with his first new music in almost 5 years. Today we get four new studio tracks from his upcoming album, JPEG RAW, set for release on March 22nd // Alkaline Trio – I’ve touted this one for several weeks, but the whole album is out today and is called Blood, Hair, and Eye Balls. The first track caught my attention (“Hot for Teacher”) No – not the Van Halen song, but “Hot for Preacher” (clip)

They actually never sing “Hot for Preacher” in that song. Anyway – looking forward to digging into the rest of that album from Alkaline Trio.

That was your New Music Friday
