Lyell and Baby Bugs collaborated on a single called “Just My Type”
Olivia Rodrigo dropped the 2nd single to her GUTS album (Sept 8th). “Bad Idea Right?”
Well, Val Astaire has an album called – Everything Good Must Happen Somewhere Else – coming out Sept 8th. But today, we get to hear and see the song “Little Animal.” Tyler is the young man who rocked it in this video with his uncle.
Another Sammy Rash song came out. I first head this guy opening for Fitz and the Tantrums. When my 7 year old heard us talking about him, she said, “Hey – I listen to him.” Here’s the new one: “I Love Summer.”
When I can list the names DJ Khaled, Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert and then say that they are all on a song together? Do I really need to say anything else except for the name of the song? “Supposed to be Loved”

Pearl Jam – Even Flow cut
That’s Pearl Jam with Even Flow – I heard it the other day in the grocery store while getting some meat for dinner.
More Pearl Jam – Even Flow cut
Babble Opener
That joke about the grocery store music becoming more and more your music as you get older . . . it is happening . . . it was 8am with Pearl Jam blaring in the grocery store aisle. // I’m just glad it’s actual Pearl Jam music. Not like some Kidz Bop station with some cover band named Diamond Jelly that plays Pearl Jam.
Happy Weekend everyone!

First up – Peter Gabriel (Hi there). This August is a special time for full moons – we get two of them this month – August 1st and August 30th. This past Full Moon Tuesday, Peter Gabriel released another song “Olive Tree” – you see what he’s been doing this year is releasing a new song for every new full moon. A full moon occurs about once a month or, 29.53 days on average. BUT – in 2023, we get 13 full moons which means 13 new songs from Mr. Peter Gabriel. Actually, more though – he does a bright side and a dark side of each song. It’s a lot. Bottomline – the newest song out today is the bright-side version of “Olive Tree.” (clip)
The band – The Maine – have released their 9th studio album and went all out with the title – it’s called The Maine. I always want album titles to mean something – whatever. BUT – the number 8123 means something. They released this album on Tuesday 8-1-23. Back in the day, 8123 were the numbers on a parking garage where the band members and childhood friends would hangout growing up. Fast forward to now and 8123 has been used in their song lyrics, is the title of their own music festival, can be seen tatted up on many of their fans, is the title of their own record label and, of course, serves as the fanbase’s nickname: the 8123 Family. Alright – MUSIC – we’ve already gotten several of these songs released earlier, so I was just looking over the list to see what jumped out to me (Goodfellas cut) “Funny How?” jumped out to me because of Goodfellas (More Goodfellas cut), but once I listened to it . . . it’s more love song than Joe Pesci getting feisty (clip)
Quick Hits: The band Sheer Mag were just signed by Third Man Records (Jack White’s record company) and they put out a new song & video today called “All Lined Up” // Wilco have announced their new album Cousin with the lead single “Evicted.” The album—due out September 29th. // Doja Cat released a song called “Paint the Town Red” (clip)

Who’s that bass player?
That’s Dogstar and, yes, they are back. Keanu Reeves is on bass. Good for him too. He’s definitely living the life. The last album – Happy Ending – came out in 2000. But this October – the 6th day to be specific, we’ll be able to enjoy the new album: Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees
Ironically enough, this weekend, I finished up a comic book series that Mr. Keanu Reeves was behind – he was one of the writers of BOOM! Studios comic – BRZRKR.

I was going to come on and explain how my newsletter was going out tomorrow but then I read the title of my newsletter – The Weekend Babbler. Hmmmm . . . can’t send that out on a Tuesday. So, if you haven’t already . . . you’ve got time. It’s going out this weekend for sure! AND- another favor – subscribe on YouTube, please. My daughter asked if I’m going to get an award yet for YouTube and I said that . . . no, you need a lot of subscribers for that. She then so you have like under a million? And that is so true – I most definitely have under a million.

Morning Babble Opener
Happy Weekend! My 3-Day Fast is in the past, so I can eat again. I had enjoyed my bacon stuffed olive (pix). The pasta dinner wasn’t ready, so I had to have something. They were so good. Had about a couple of those or 5. . Alright, maybe 9, but they were good. On the final day though, my son helped me with a tank move that had to be done, and being a growing boy – he wanted Taco Bell afterwards. (Taco Tuesday!). It was Thursday, but whatever. I went into the Bell and bought him a bag of taco goodness. (Another drop)
I will admit – sometimes during a 3-Day Fast – I think: “Screw it. I’m eating now? Enjoy the Now? Eating now.” I didn’t though. I was good. It was actually more difficult on Day 2 of the fast when I was passing a Food Truck that was serving up authentic tacos. Reminds me of what Blink-182 would claim to always get in California (All the Small Things). This taco truck was not located in the friendliest of areas BUT if I wasn’t fasting and feeling as hungry as I was . . . I soooo would have stopped. I was at a red light when I saw it the first time and then on my way back, I gazed at it across the way. (Taco Tuesday)

Album of the Year has arrived . . . if you like this flavor at least. Travis Scott with his new album called Utopia. It’s a big one too. 19 songs, nearly 75 minutes of new music, which blows away some of these other albums being released today. I’ve listened to several of the songs, but not the whole way through yet, so let’s simply go to the one being pushed by Spotify at the top of their New Music list for the day: “DELRESTO (ECHOES)” (clip)
The entire Post Malone album is here – called Austin – we’ve already heard 3 of the tunes but now we can experience all 17 of them – nearly an hour of tunage. The song that I listened to today was “Enough is Enough” (clip) I briefly thought of another artist when I first heard that (Phil Collins clip) Don’t make Phil mad Post. Alright, the song is not entirely the same – it just gave me that slight hint with the line “Take Me Home”. The lyrics “shot the vodka straight” – that certainly wasn’t Phil Collins-like.
(clip) “Overture Or Obituary” is one of two bonus tracks on the Deluxe Edition album from Korn titled: Untitled – sorry, it was fun to present it that way. 15 years ago this album first came out, but now you can get it on vinyl with a makeover look. Vinyl edition will be limited to 10,000 copies across two separate colored vinyl pressings. But the digital sounds will still be out there for the bonus tracks along with the old faithfuls.
(clip) Quick Hits: That was the new Trippie Redd song “Last Days” dropped a week before his full album release // (clip) And that was the happy sounding song from Sammy Rash called “Be Here Now” Back in February, I saw that guy opening up for Fitz & the Tantrums (clip) // Finally, the original score from the movie: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is out. Who’s behind it? NIN’s Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. These guys have already done music for other films like The Social Network, Gone Girl, Pixar’s Soul, and plenty more. They’ve got a bunch awards for these albums, too. Now, I haven’t seen the movie but the titles of these songs are amusing to me: “Grand Theft Ice Cream Truck” & “Puke Girl” & it’s amusing how a couple of the songs have an “explicit” warning label on them because obviously there aren’t any “lyrics” for the song since this is the score of the movie. However, a bad word has been used in the title of the song.
Oooo – quick story time – my 7-year-old daughter and I were in the Jeep going to her camp and the song “Cupid” from 50/50 came on. While it was playing, my daughter points out – “this is not the edited song.” Slight panic came across me but I realized the channel that we were hearing it from and was confused. Cautiously, I asked “What did you hear, Violet?” In a whisper, she replied “stupid”. Ahhhh, some innocence still remains. Whew. (clip)
It would be wrong of me not to mention this but I try to get these babbles upbeat and happy. Tired of the sad. Last Friday – it was Tony Bennett. Unfortunately, we just lost the 56-year-old Irish singer-songwriter, Sinéad O’Connor. 56. Tony Bennett was 96 – not saying there is ever a good time for anything like dying, but 56. Enjoy the Now.

Happy Monday! I can’t believe that next Monday is the last day of July.
July 4th comes and goes and yanks summer along with it.
I know – we still have a solid 2 months of warmth, but in several weeks, we’ll already be talking Pumpkin Spice. Just the other day, I saw Halloween candy.
GOAL SETTING MONDAY & REVIEW –
Talking about setting up some goals and knocking them down – just for the week
I’ve got my 3-Day Fast kicking off tonight after dinner. From that point until Thursday night, just water, black coffee, green tea. No additives.
1.5 days into it . . . autophagy arrives / Flushing the system / Clarity comes about / It’s a WIN for me health-wise, but also mentally. Makes me stronger again when I hear the snacks in the kitchen calling my name.

Happy Weekend! We made it. Whew. It’s been a week. I’ve been hitting up the kitchen a lot this week, too. Working from home all week and it’s right there. Thankfully, next week beginning Monday night – I start up my monthly 3-Day Fast.
It really is perfect timing for it too. I’ve become the Garbage Can Dad again – eating the remnants of food from my kids’ plates. You’re not going to eat all that chicken? You don’t want all that steak? Unfortunately, when I do dishes though, I help clean up the snack area too. Skittles bag is open? Finished them. I convince myself that I’m cleaning up the counter. Kids ask where the Skittles bag went . . . “well, daughter – the Skittles went stale unfortunately and I had to get rid of them.” (clip – get into my belly)
Stale Skittles. Anyway, I could use that 3-Day Fast to tweak my food urges and get them under control again.
Before I get into new music, one last thing. I did just hear that we lost one of the greatest singers of all time, Mr. Tony Bennett has passed away at the age of 96 – just two weeks short of his birthday. A guy who sang alongside Frank Sinatra as well as Lady Gaga – he will be missed by many generations.
New Music Friday:
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
First up – you heard of Blur (clip) Via Pitchfork’s Jazz Monroe, I learned that the “Darren” in the album’s title: The Ballad of Darren is “playfully honoring Blur’s security guard and resident everyman Darren “Smoggy” Evans.” I always enjoy learning about those little tidbits about an album. So, new Blur. It’s definitely not the upbeat sounds that some of us are used to (clip). No. So far – what I have heard is definitely a more mellow sounding Blur and I’m all in for it. We’ve already gotten a couple songs off of the album, but the one Spotify appears to be pushing is “Barbaric.” (clip)
Apparently, A$AP Rocky is in “album mode”, which is a good thing because it’s been 5 years since his last one. As he builds towards his forthcoming and fourth album called: Don’t Be Dumb; today, he releases his second single as lead artist of 2023. This one is co-produced by some guy named Pharrell Williams. The song is called RIOT (Rowdy Pip’n) – clip.
Some songs that I talk about aren’t necessarily my “cup of tea” – this would be one of them. I’m talking about the combo of will.i.am and Britney Spears. I saw it on the new music list and I had to give it a listen (clip) It’s called “Mind Your Business” which the two of them would probably say to me at this point. BUT – I just wanted to bring it to your attention. It’s out there for your listening pleasure. Hope your ear holes enjoy it. (clip)
Quick Hits of Songs and Music that I missed: Another new song from Thirty Seconds to Mars called “Get Up Kid” came out last Friday. Full album drop apparently occurs September 15th and that is called: It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day // Dan Auerbach who is half of the Black Keys (clip) released a new single last Thursday called “Every Change I Get (I Want You in the Flesh)” // And finally, The Hives last Tuesday released “Rigor Mortis Radio” (clip)
Frustrates me when I miss stuff. I try to get to it all, but when favorites of mine slip by, I am always baffled.

First and foremost – Happy Weekend, everyone!
This concert t-shirt is from the show on February 23, 1991 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. The Soup Dragons were set to open for INXS that night. Unfortunately, the lead singer lost his voice from the night prior and they didn’t perform.
Sooner or later – I’ll stop with the INXS. (not tonight)

1st up but for the 3rd release off of his upcoming album – Austin, we have Post Malone delivering us new music. By the way, full album drop on July 28th – 2 weeks away. We already got “Chemical” and “Mourning.” Today, we get “Overdrive.” (clip)
Quavo surprised the hip-hop world with his new Future collab (that’s with Future). Anyway, here’s “Turn Yo Clic Up.” (clip) Quavo is focusing his sights on a new album called Rocket Power, which is a tribute to his fellow Migos member – Takeoff, who we lost too soon.
via Pitchfork’s Allison Hussey, I took this snippet of news: Billie Eilish has shared her contribution to the forthcoming Barbie movie soundtrack, a song titled “What Was I Made For?” It comes with an Eilish-directed video. (drop) Eilish co-wrote “What Was I Made For?” with her brother, Finneas, who produced it at his home studio in Los Angeles. That was a show that I enjoyed watching with the kids when they were younger – Phineas and Ferb (clip)
Quick Hits of New Music: Travis Scott will unveil his upcoming album “the world of Utopia” during a livestreamed performance in front of the Pyramids in Egypt – that takes place on July 28th. However, there is no release date for the actual album yet. // (Pets clip) Perry Farrell put together another band – Porno for Pyros – back when Jane’s Addiction wasn’t happening. For the first time in 25 years, they will tour AND we can expect new music to be released. // Lastly, Nessa Barrett has her EP out called Hell is a Teenage Girl – the song by that very same name is being pushed (clip)

10 days into July and I’ve only run 3x. Without the “10k Everyday” that I did in June, I’ve been struggling. It was my one true morning routine go-to and that’s where I messed up last month as well. I never got anything else built around the run and now – poof – it’s gone.
Don’t worry – I’m not going to restart up “10k Everyday”. Now, I did run today but just a 5k – timing wise for my mornings, I believe that’s ideal. I mixed in some other exercise as well since I’m trying to figure out if my shoulder needs surgery or not . . . still. That’s Fun.
Anyway – what am I getting at here? We all hit walls. Need to figure out new goals. Got to have something to help push you along.
I’m working on some things. Hoping to have a new short come out within the next week. Also plan on shooting a video this weekend for a book review. Vinyl show – coming too. And lastly – sign up for the newsletter – issue #2 is coming. Some kinks have been ironed out.
