My Favorite Shirt via 302 Horseshoe Crab / New Music Friday: Dominic Fike, INXS & Sgt. Slick, and Taylor Swift

morning babble / Friday 07-07-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

It’s the weekend! Little slow on the get-go though. Ever reach for that certain shirt to help pick you up? That’s a lot of pressure for fabric. The 302 Horseshoe Crab made this shirt. As stated on their website: “a lifestyle brand creating casual, quality goods to match the Delaware vibe.” That’s what I needed – some Delaware vibing. (Wayne’s World clip) – Sadly, I was in a movie theater seeing that movie – Wayne’s World – and experienced the excitement of seeing “Delaware” but then realizing – wait, what did they just say? (clip again)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • All the way back in October of 1980, the Australian rock band (as defined on Wikipedia) – INXS released the song “Just Keep Walking.” It’s off of their debut album creatively titled – INXS. Today though, we experience a remixed version of the song courtesy of Sgt. Slick (clip) Yeah that’s what I opened the Babble with.
  • So, look who else is taking some old music and bringing it back once again. Although, she does have some new music to go along with it. Taylor’s version of Speak Now is out today – the 16 original songs, but re-recorded sitting alongside 6 brand new tracks or I should say previously unreleased tracks. As she stated within her Instagram (not Threads – it didn’t exist yet), she says “I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness.” Swifties excited today. Here’s a clip of one of the new 6 songs – “I Can See You” – did I say Taylor Swift? Do I really need to say her full name for people to know? (clip)
  • Dominic Fike’s album – Sunburn – is out today. We’ve been getting sounds from it for awhile now like “Dancing In The Courthouse,” “Ant Pile,” “Mona Lisa,” and “Mama’s Boy” but today we get it all 15 songs together – all nicely packaged up. Track 1 jumped out to me “How much is Weed?”, but then I saw track 3 includes the band Weezer – that song is called “Think Fast” (clip)
  • Quick Hits: Indie Rocker- Local Natives dropped their new album called Time Will Wait for No One – just 10 songs, but it pushes past 30 minutes, so it’s officially an album. Definitely, a more laid-back sounding band. // Picking it up a little – Grouplove pushes out their newest album today as well with I Want It All Right Now // Lil Baby dropped a single called “Merch Madness” / and lastly, The Darkness (clip) they have announced a deluxe reissue of Permission to Land in celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary. Permission to Land…Again is out October 6th. (clip)

What’s Kobe hill? / Full recap of June’s 10k Everyday / Kobe Bryant quote

morning babble / Monday 07-03-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

There wasn’t a party. People weren’t sleeping either, but definitely – no party.

Happy Monday! Typically, on a Monday, I like talking about setting up some goals and knocking them down.

Today though – I wanted to do a recap of a bigger goal that I did all last month.

10k Everyday for June (drop)

I think one of the most satisfying things was that I knocked this out every morning – Eat the Frog. Felt good and set me up Mission was actually accomplished before the recording of Friday’s vlog but that was filled with New Music Friday (duh)

And – I had a lot of people have reached out with questions, like: – how did you feel? did you hurt anything? were you ever going to quit?

Well, I ran today after a weekend off from running and my legs are still very tired – my muscles just need more time for recovering.

As for an actual “hurt” – On Day 1, my toenail on the second toe, (“Index toe”, “pointer toe”) of my right foot turned black. (ewwwwww drop)

Quitting – I won’t lie. After the University of Delaware Alumni 5k race, kids birthday party that was adult friendly with big people beverage on hand, and then running another 5k later that evening. My body was not doing well for the 3 days that followed. At that point – I could then say – 1 week done.

DROP – “Look at that – another record setting day – not at all”

My fastest day was sadly on June 1st. Strangely enough, the 2nd fastest day was on the 2nd Day of my 3-Day Fast. 36 hours done and I was lighter and feeling good.

DROP – “Kobe Hill explanation”

Kobe Hill – that one hurt all the time at the very end.

Got my Weezer on this past Tuesday night / I also did my final 10k run of the month

(Greatest Man clip)

  1. Happy Anniversary to my wife – thank you for tolerating . . . this and me.
  2. 10k run everyday for June – did it. I’m gonna recap of the month on Monday – on a very special Babble.
  3. Weezer again.

  • Not too long ago, it was announced that Olivia Rodrigo was coming out with her 2nd album called Guts on September 8th. So, we knew a new song had to be coming soon (cut) Radio edit (cut) She’s angry at something. I didn’t do it. BUT – I am looking forward to the rest of what she delivers on September 8th – again the album is called Guts and that song is “Vampire”.
  • Bradley James Nowell was the lead singer and guitarist of the band Sublime (cut). We lost him back in 1996 – I remember that during my radio days. He had a son who was 1 at the time. Obviously, that kid is all grown up now and his name is Jakob Nowell and he has a band that goes by: Jakobs Castle. He already released a 9-song filled album earlier this year. BUT – this past week, we got another new song from him called: “Time Traveler” (clip)
  • New hip-hop out of Philly with one of their own – Lil Uzi Vert. His album Pink Tape is out in its entirety today – 26 songs, nearly an hour and half of new music. So, I obviously haven’t had time yet to go through all that. Spotify is pushing the single with Nicki Minaj called “Endless Fashion” (clip)
  • Couple weeks ago the band – Vacations – came out with the song “Midwest.” And, I liked it. Line 1 of Wikipedia states Vacations are an Australian indie rock band from Newcastle, New South Wales formed in 2015. The band’s musical style sounds similar to Mac DeMarco who Campbell Burns said is a very big influence for the band. BUT – I believe I found someone else that they sound like. Here’s their song “Midwest” (clip) and here’s the other band that it made me think of (clip) – that’s “Blasphemous Rumours” from Depeche Mode. Late September, they begin touring in the US.
  • Quick Hits: Neon Trees came out with “Favorite Daze” – That’s the name of their tour, too. Which came first? // From HBO’s show – “The Idol” – The Weeknd and Lil Baby released a song together called “False Idols” // and finally, a favorite of mine Glorious Sons released “Lighting Bolt” (clip) – they are coming to Philly in September . . . hoping to get to that one at the Union Transfer. The restaurant – La Chinesca – is right next door and makes out a wonderful evening whenever a show is there.

Day 26 of 10k everyday / Compliments lead to changing the attire / Ray Dalio quote

morning babble / Monday 06-26-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Happy Monday!

Almost had to have an afternoon run – too much lightning this morning. I’m not scared of some heavy rain, but lightning. I’ll pass. I have a small window in the morning that I can do the run before the kid commute to & from swim team practice kicks in. Of course, they are at different times with a 2-hour gap between them. So convenient. Not at all.

Speaking of the kids and swimming. At their swim meet this past Saturday. I wore this shirt. I love this shirt. I got a bunch of compliments. Yeah – it felt good. BUT – I now can’t wear this shirt around that particular grouping of individuals for awhile. I don’t want to be known as the guy that’s always in the “Tacos and Cervezas” shirt.

It’s Monday! Talking about setting up some goals and knocking them down

I’m excited about wrapping up my 10k everyday for June. What I’m bummed about is not really putting together a definitive new morning routine. I haven’t really been doing too much prior to the run and I feel as if it’s wasted time. I can’t stress on that though. This leads right into my quote of the dat.

Running Down a Dream

Morning Babble intro

I ran. It was not easy, but the 10k everyday continues on. It is the 3rd Day of my 3-Day Fast. I was down for the count slightly.

The senses are working – my daughter had raspberries when we were driving around yesterday. The smell was amazingly good. Like I could taste the goodness. So jealous.

You know Christmas in July? How about Thanksgiving in June? Obviously, I’ve got food on the mind. (clip)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Beck and Phoenix are touring together this summer, so why not collaborate on a new song. Written, produced, and performed by both Beck and Phoenix—has vocals from Beck and Phoenix’s Thomas Mars. We get the song “Odyssey” (clip) Again, that’s Beck & Phoenix, who’s summer tour kicks off late in the summer – August. So, be patient.
  • (clip) That was the first time I heard of Big Freedia which is from the Jon Batiste remixed song – “Freedom”. So, when I saw that name pop up on the new music list today – I was all over clicking towards that. Big Freedia has a whole album that dropped called – Central City. Now, the song being highlighted on Spotify is “El Nino” which features Boyfriend and Lil Wayne, but again I was clicking around and enjoyed the sounds of “Bigfoot” and “Booty Like A Drummer” made me laugh (clip)
  • Young Thug released an album with all kinds of hip-hop artists: Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Drake, Future and Travis Scott. The album is Business is Business. Everyone’s pushing the song “Oh You Went” – a song with Drake. I was enjoying one of the two with Travis Scott called “Abracadabra” (clip)
  • Couple Quick Hits . . . Ayron Jones released his new album today – Chronicles of the Kid – 10 songs from one of my favorite guitar rockers // Last year, Fitz and The Tantrums released – Let Yourself Free. Today, we get the deluxe version which means we get 6 more songs to go along with the original 12. (clip)

20 runs of 10k Everyday for June! That’s 2/3s of the way done.

BUT – this is the toughest part of the month. This is what I feared most about this running challenge – seriously.

3-Day Fast / This month will be my 30th month in a row for a 3-Day Fast.

Back in 2021 when I ran a 5k everyday – I did the 3-Day Fast throughout it all – no real problems. There were some tough 3rd days of the Fast, but I got through it.

A 10k though . . . obviously, that’s upping the ante.

After my Father’s Day Food Fest, I wanted a couple days to ready the ship.

Happy Monday / Happy Juneteenth – if you have off today, way to go. Enjoy it.

Hope all the dads had a wonderful Father’s Day yesterday. I actually want a “do over” – not that it was bad or anything. Far from it. It was a wonderful day that I truly wish that I could do again. Got some Vinyl, ate some steak, a little too much beverage, maybe.

Today’s 10k Run – it was like slow-motion (clip)

Being a Monday, I typically like talking about setting up some goals and knocking them down – just for the week

“Hand Me Down” Advice

Via Ben Meer ‘s newsletter (he posts this stuff on social media, too) – he got this idea from Dickie Bush and that is – Create a Frustration List. All those annoying things that bother you – you put it on a list. I created one in my Evernote app. Whenever I come across an issue, I add it in there. Then, what the initial creator of this list – Dickie Bush – does is sets up an hour every week to tackle these issues. To stop the annoyances in your life.

Couple things that I recently knocked out – Screwed in the loose handles on the kitchen cabinets / Fix that bulb – get a ladder to figure out what was needed, order it, and then finally fix it. I ended up replacing them all.

Frustration list
Knife in the drawer that shouldn’t be
blinking lights in the laundry room
carpet
squeaky dryer
Loose handles on my dresser drawers

Happy Weekend!

Some of you come for the running / I ran / #16 of the 10k everyday

Some come for the New Music Friday – that’s coming

And some of you come for the random babble – like Worcestershire

Speaking of random – it is Friday and as a family for dinner tonight, we order wings and pizza. My wife normally calls in the order, but the other week, she was not able to do so. My turn.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Listed on Wikipedia – Jon Lajoie – he’s listed as a Canadian comedian, actor, rapper, singer, songwriter, director, record producer, musician and Internet celebrity. For singing, he goes by Wolfie’s Just Fine. I guess the label for his sound would be “Indie rock or folk”. I’m definitely intrigued. I’m enjoying the serious, melodic singing to go along with his comedic or satirical lyrics. The song being pushed today on Spotify is “Hulk Hogan Slammed Andre the Giant.” (clip) That’s funny, but totally digging the sound as well. Entire album is out today which is called: Everyone is Dead Except Us
  • Alright, let’s get happy (clip) That’s Ben Rector making Sunday sounding like a happy one – he obviously has never lived with a teacher – but Ben Rector – he is by far on of my favorite musicians – has a new album out. It’s a live one called Live from Atlanta, so no actual “new” music, but I’ll still take it. This guy’s sound has picked me up so many times in my life – I owe him something. (clip)
  • Couple weeks back, this guy – KennyHoopla – released a song called “You Need a Hit” but today we get another one called “Sabotage” and he’s got a little drummer on the ditty named Travis Barker. (clip) KennyHoopla – he’s the opener for some of the shows on the Blink-182 tour this summer. Not a bad gig. Just a couple people showing up there. (clip)
  • Quick Hits: A lot of Brent favorites have come out . . . Judah & the Lion – not sure if a full album is on the way, but I don’t want to get too greedy since they just had a new one drop a year ago called – Revival. Nevertheless, I’ll take the new single that they just released called “Heart Medicine” (clip) New Spoon – actually, a whole EP . . . a wanna be LP – we get 3 songs in total and slapped the name – Memory Dust on it and off we go (clip) And finally, Killer Mike (1/2 of the tag team known as Run the Jewels) released a new album today called: Michael – bunch of guests adding in their voices too – you have Andre 3000, Ty Dolla $ign, 2Chainz, El-P, and CeeLo Green (clip)
