morning babble / Friday 10-11-24
DISCLAIMER:
This is the scribble that leads to the babble.
Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.
When all else fails: there’s video!
(“Zoot Suit Riot” – Cherry Poppin’ Daddies)
Sometimes I flip through my CD collection for ideas – “Zoot Suit Riot” was released October of ’97

(Morning Babble Intro)
Happy Weekend! And yes – I just want to acknowledge that my Red October is over – BUT it being October, it’s probably more ideal to go with an orange theme, right? Go Flyers! (“Hell”) That’s right – back to music – in particular that ska swing sound. Remember – Squirrel Nut Zippers – so good. I was talking about Cherry Poppin’ Daddies with their “Zoot Suit Riot” song (clip) 27 years old. It was popular right after the movie Swingers hit it big (drop) I know I played that last week. Vince Vaughn was simply amazing in Swingers (drop) Looking up Cherry Poppin’ Daddies – I learned that their twelfth album – At the Pink Rat – was released in July of this year (clip) Totally Missed It – could have been a MMM.

New Music Friday:
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
- One of my favorites – St. Vincent has released a new song – sort of (clip) That’s “Pulga” a Spanish language version of her track ‘Flea’ (clip) Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent , was inspired performing for Spanish-speaking audiences and recalled experiencing her set at Primavera Sound 2023. “At the end, she asked herself, ‘If they’re able to sing in a second or third language, why can’t I do the same thing?’” (Hombre Roto) She is so good. That was actually the 1st single – the Spanish version of “Broken Man” – from her upcoming album to be released on November 15th called Todos Nacen Gritando – did I say that right? (video) Grity-Tando – I didn’t say it as cool as that guy either. I’m trying. Nevertheless, this is a full Spanish language reimagining of this year’s released St. Vincent album All Born Screaming – which personally for me, just might be the album of the year (“Broken Man”)
- And then there’s Charli XCX – her Brat album dropped this past June (“Von Dutch” clip) There’s a deluxe Brat album out today but that shouldn’t be confused with the other one called: Brat and It’s the Same but There’s Three More Songs So It’s Not – that’s really the title. I like that type of humor (“Spring breakers” clip) Back to the newer one, Charli XCX released Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat – again, that’s the title. It’s all the Brat songs again, but they feature everyone from addison rae to The 1975 to Billie Eilish (clip)
- The last time Fuller released a full album was back in 2022 (“Never Better”) 13 songs in all including that one “Never Better”. Album was called Lowlife. There were some singles released in 2023, but back on January 5th, there was his first release of this year called “Chicago” (clip) Since then, there has been a ton of releases by Fuller. How many? Well, today he released “I Know Yr Close” – his 21st single of 2024. Go check out some Fuller (clip)
- Several quick hits of new music: Pixies and Breeders rocker – Kim Deal – has been working on her new album – Nobody Loves You More – for like 13 years. Full album drop on November 22nd, but today we get the album’s 3rd release called “A Good Time Pushed” // The Cure have shared the 2nd release from Songs of A Lost World – called “A Fragile Thing”— this one is 2 minutes shorter than the 1st song that they released which was 6:48. This one is 4:43. (show hourglass) // Jelly Roll – full album all out in its glory – 22 songs – over an hour of music – it’s called Beautifully Broken (Run DMC Xmas) Uh-oh. New holiday tunes. Rick Braun, an instrumentalist, – he plays the trumpet and is from Allentown, PA. Sorta local? His Christmas album is out just in time for October – it’s called: It’s Christmas – I love this type of cool jazz sound for the holidays (clip)
