Day 9 of 10k everyday / New Music Friday: Sam Smith & Madonna (sound like JT) + Vampire Weekend Vinyl

morning babble / Friday 06-09-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

(clip) So, we have new music (clip)

Happy Weekend! I’ll be with you all weekend checking in on my running. I ran. I already filled out the boxes but I do feel bad a little. Someone reached out and said that they enjoy the anticipation of me marking off the blocks. Anyway I rolled tape on it earlier and sped it up, so we can all zip through it (clip) I got a little excited there at the end.

Oh – other people have reached out and concerned that I’m running outside during this air quality issue. Don’t worry. I’m okay. I know I’m not Superman or anything but I’m trusting my body through it all in telling me “No Brent”. Because, I’ve also had people reach out concerned that I’m running everyday and explaining that I can’t do that. (Cecil clip)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Sam Smith and Madonna are singing together on the song – “VULGAR” which I played at the very beginning of the Babble today. After hearing the whole song, it made me think of another song. Here’s the part of “VULGAR” that I heard (clip) which made me think of this song (clip). Did you hear that? “VULGAR” (clip) then “SexyBack” (clip) I don’t know – just a thought. Maybe I’m listening to JT too much. I do think the combo of Sam Smith and Madonna works out well. I did enjoy the song. No kids in the car though when listening. Safety tip.
  • (clip) new song and video from Greta Van Fleet. It’s called “Farewell For Now” which is taken from their upcoming album: Starcatcher, which drops in its entirety on July 21st. Just a couple days later, they kick off their world tour in Nashville.
  • Quick Hits for New Music: Janelle Monáe, her album – The Age of Pleasure – it’s all out today // K-Pop Band – BTS – celebrates the band’s 10th anniversary with the new song “Take Two” (clip) There’s like 15 members in that band – alright 7, but they gotta keep pumping out some new music to cover costs // Another new moon, another new song from Peter Gabriel this year “Road to Joy” brings the tally to 6.
  • Finally, Vinyl News! – Vampire Weekend (clip) Yeah those guys – they have released a vinyl-only live album called: Frog on the Bass Drum Vol. 01 which includes songs that the band played on tour in Indianapolis back in June of 2019. Jack White’s Third Man Pressing was the vinyl creator behind it all, but only 2,500 copies of the LP were pressed. So yes – it’s already SOLD OUT. Anyone want to make a happy Brent – figure out how I can still get a copy and let me know. You only get like 8 songs . . . I guess why the album was called Vol. 1 – I get it . . . more is coming. The record does include a 10-minute cover of Bob Dylan’s, “Jokerman,” (clip)

morning babble / Monday 06-05-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Whew – welcome to Monday. I’m definitely tired today.

Yesterday, I ran in the University of Delaware Alumni 5k Run. I enjoyed it. My daughter enjoyed it too. She ran in the Kids Run.

For my age group, 50 to 59, I took 3rd. “For my age group” – that’s a phrase I definitely want to put forth first in that statement. Later on, my daughter was telling people how I took 3rd and completely ignoring that magical phrase. The letdown on people’s faces. I was 15th overall. My wife got an action shot of me crossing the finish line. (pix) Whole lot better than that video from June 1st. I feel as if I looked “cooler” or at least better. The cute picture winner went to my daughter. (pix)

Day 2 of my 10k everyday – not pretty, I know / and New Music Friday: MGK, Saba, Metro Boomin

morning babble / Friday 06-02-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Is it bad when a toenail turns black?

(drop – Ewwwww)

Happy Friday

Day 2 of my 10k every day for June – Did it. Again.

By the way, yesterday’s video. The shot of me running. I know – it didn’t look good.

You were afraid I was going to fall or something, huh. I took that shot – sped it up, slowed it down (you can go slower?).

I follow this woman – The Fashion Jogger – she looks good running. Well, she is attractive. But – she looks cool running. (clip) See. Not me. Don’t worry I won’t show it again.

If you want to watch it again, go watch yesterday’s video. (clip)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Foo Fighters dropped their new album in its entirety – called But Here We Are. Over 48 minutes of new music spread out over 10 songs. We’ve already heard “Rescued” and “Under You” and yes, we can go off and hear the rest, but the one that they seem to be pushing at least on Spotify is “The Glass” (clip)
  • New Norah Jones, well, not new new. It’s a Deluxe version of her 5th studio album from 2012 called Little Broken Hearts – the Deluxe Edition features an expanded 31-track set curated by Jones herself along with rare bonus tracks, alternate versions, remixes, and a previously unreleased live version of the album. Get it in vinyl – you’ll get 3 circles to spin. I don’t have a clip to play from this album, but one of my favorite songs that Norah Jones did was covering the Soundgarden song – “Black Hole Sun” during the tribute concert for Chris Cornell (clip)
  • Metro Boomin has put together quite the line-up for the soundtrack to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. It’s like a team of Hip-Hop Avengers – you get Future, Don Toliver, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Rocky, James Blake, Wizkid, – the list goes on! (clip)
  • Here’s some quick hits on new music: New Ben Harper album is out – you get the whole thing – Wide Open Light // One of my favorites – Saba – he has released another single called “hue_man nature” // and finally, Machine Gun Kelly – after dabbling in the genre of rock – he’s back rapping in his new single “Pressure” (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork & I know there’s more.

Shot of me running away

(hand swipe) Hi. Welcome to Day 1 of June – I’m tired already. Hopefully, you just witnessed me running away on the trail. Otherwise, I wasn’t successful in getting my son to help me with that shot that I thought up. (drop – Elliott, want to help good ole Dad). So, obviously, this was recorded prior to the run.

Why am I doing this? Well? I wanted a challenge. I wanted to run again more often since I won in my battle against Plantar Fascitiis.

I also saw this woman named Candice Burt who recently completed 200 ultramarathons in 200 days. An Ultramarathon is 50 kilometers. I knew that I wasn’t going to be doing that. BUT – since I did do a 5k every day back in 2021, I knew I needed to up my game.

Enjoying Memorial Day Monday! / Running goal set for June / Oprah Winfrey quote

morning babble / Monday 05-29-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Happy Memorial Day Monday! Be sure to remember why we have this day and weekend. Remembering and Honoring those who died serving for this country.

BUT – still be sure to enjoy the grilling, the get-togethers, and the beverage today.

GOAL SETTING MONDAY

Typically, I talk about setting up some goals and knocking them down – just for the week

But for this Monday, I’m going to explain my goal for the entire month of June.

10k every day / Vlogging every day about it too

What I’m looking forward to the most is the morning routine that I’m about to create. I feel that one of my strengths is consistency and THAT is needed with routines.

Daily wake-up time followed by meditating, journaling, running, and vlogging. Work.

I follow Ben Meer (a writer) and also receive his newsletter.
He’s used a line: The best morning routine? Starts the night before.

And it’s so true, he also references Cal Newport and discussed a shutdown ritual

Going to work on both of these in June

Official Kick-off to Summer / Running goals, Fast done, & Thongs? I can explain / and New Music Friday

morning babble / Friday 05-26-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Happy Weekend? Happy Summer Weekend!

(video)

Welcome to the Official Start of Summer – Happy Memorial Day Weekend! I’m excited to get outside even more. Sort of.

The amount of pollen on the cars in the morning – unreal. It’s like winter, but not. Have to use that car snow brush thing. So much pollen. I have to shovel the sidewalks of pollen so the neighbors can go on their walks. As a courtesy, leave out some Kleenex at the end of the driveway for everyone to use. Everybody’s sneezing. (sneezing Panda)

By the way, these outside runs of mine because the treadmill is shot. Holy ouch to my body. After one this past week, I had to put an ice pack on my face. Not my feet or legs or anything run related but my face. Took awhile and several Benadryl to become normalized again.

Also, I have come up with a challenge for myself that will begin June 1st and continue throughout the entire month while vlogging every day. I’ll announce it on Memorial Day Monday, because it still terrifies me. I really want to push myself, but . . . we’ll see. (clip)

Oh, and my 3-Day Fast. I completed it. Some people reached out because I didn’t post what I ate to break the fast on Instagram like I normally do. We were actually out as a family to another family’s home for a birthday party. Crabs and beer broke the fast. Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat the crabs the way I probably would have if I was in my own home (clip)

New Music Friday:

Finally – Let’s get into this.

As always, I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • First up – Beyonce with her song: “America Has a Problem” – this song has already been out there courtesy of her recent Renaissance album. BUT – this is an updated version with some dude named Kendrick Lamar joins in (clip)
  • So, Beyonce creating great music and then taking it again to making it even greater or more better. Taylor Swift is doing the same thing with “Karma” which is off of her Midnights album. For this revision, she includes Ice Spice on the song (clip)
  • So, Beyonce and Taylor giving us new music by tweaking their old music a little bit. So, let’s get into some really new music (clip) “Dance The Night” from Dua Lipa – her contribution to the upcoming Barbie movie soundtrack. The Barbie movie which stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken – comes out July 21st.
  • (Clip) That’s KennyHoopla with his song “You Needed a Hit” . Via the Alternative Press, he was quoted as saying that this song “felt like the perfect song to start a roll out with,” he also confirmed that “more music is on the way.” By the way, that’s his dog is in the video (clip) Happy bunnies there at the end. KennyHoopla appears to have the same humor as the band that he’s opening for (clip) Blink-182 – I am so ready for new music from them. I recently got an email because I’m geeky like that and on their email list, but it said something about being available now and I was excited it being new music. It was not. Instead it was tour accessories that they are selling on tour but you can also buy online. (pix) Those guys just make me giggle.
  • (Laser) Couple Quick Hits of Music Updates: Post Malone has announced details of his next album which is self-titled, sort of. It’s called Austin, which is his birth name. I could have sworn it was Post. Anyway, album is out July 28th – lots of him on the guitar, too. (Laser) // Janelle Monae – I don’t know what I’m more excited about her new album out on June 9th or my new Rolling Stone magazine arriving to my mailbox (pix) That’s her on the cover. They call that a titillating magazine cover. (Laser) //

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork & I know there’s undoubtedly more.

I go through it all for the New Music Friday (thanks brent)

Wife was away, so it was Comics and Books and Records, oh my! / Fast begins tonight / Snoop Dogg quote

morning babble / Monday 05-22-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Happy Monday!

Wife was away this weekend . . . so, what did me and the kids do to get ourselves into trouble? Well, we shopped in the little city of Newark, DE.

Captain Blue Hen Comics – we picked up our subscription order. Everybody loves Batman. (picture) Everybody.

Next – Rainbow Records – I was hoping for the newest album from The National (clip) all in on that new sound, but they didn’t have it. Sold out of it with more coming later this week. My daughter asked the woman at the counter for any Lindsey Stirling records – they did not have that either. Every time in there, I’m going to let her ask. One day – they’ll have one and I’ll get it right then and there. We were just done perusing the story and about to leave, when my daughter asked about Taylor Swift, who she has been way into lately. Understandably so with all the recent hype of her visiting the area for her concerts.

My son wanted Kendrick Lamar’s Damn album – I was close, but couldn’t do that one. It’s tough going with some of the Hip-Hop albums or Hard Rock albums with the in your face language. We got Snoop on Record Store Day – made it about 10 seconds in and was like “I’m not sure about this right now” – let it go for another 10 to 15 seconds and was like “We Out” – gotta wait to the little girl is not home.

Also, we hit up Barnes & Noble because we had won a gift card. Got them each a book.

Happy Weekend – Tacos & Cervezas! / Dunce Whiskey – but, I can explain / and New Music Friday

morning babble / Friday 05-19-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Don’t need this anymore.

Had to cover up my shirt for a meeting this morning. Not good to meet with an employee for a review while wearing “Tacos and Cervazas”

Happy Weekend!

By the way – some of you are quite perceptive. Asking me if I’m drinking during the show.

No – but it’s a possibility. I have Dunce Whiskey in the background. Picked this up at Philly’s Art in the Age. I working on a video of reviewing this book.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • When I was talking about Blur this past Monday (clip), I had no idea that a new album was on the way. But – here we are. Last album made was 8 years ago – that’s 2015’s The Magic Whip album. This summer – July 21st to be specific – we will receive in its entirety: The Ballad of Darren. Today, we are teased by the album’s first release – “The Narcissist.” (clip)
  • Foo Fighters have shared another new song from their album But Here We Are, which is all out on June 2nd – couple weeks away. “Rescued” was the first release. “Under You” is the second release. (clip) Via Pitchfork I learned that the Foo Fighters have described this album as being a “brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters endured over the last year.” So far from what I’ve heard: I’m feeling and hearing their pain.
  • Mix it up here with a little Hip-Hop / Juice WRLD’s five year anniversary album of Goodbye & Good Riddance is out now. This special release includes two new tracks “Glo’d Up” and “No Good.” (clip) By the way, the late rapper’s friend – Lil Bibby has said, “The Last Juice WRLD Album is in the works. Let’s celebrate the life of Juice. No more mourning, I want everyone that Juice loved while he was here to help celebrate, especially his fans who he loved!” Hopefully coming out later this year.
  • (clip) The name of that song is “Only Love Can Save Us Now” but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to remove that plastic bag over your head either. That’s Kesha and her new album – Gag Order – is fully out today.
  • Other new music: Slipknot and Stone Sour lead singer: Corey Taylor has announced his 2nd full solo album by releasing its 1st single called “Beyond” /// Maroon 5 have unveiled a new single, “Middle Ground” which marks the band’s first release since 2021. /// And lastly, for their 10th album together, the Dave Matthews Band (clip) have released a 12-track album called: Walk Around the Moon. Several of these songs have been played in years past during their concerts, so although not officially released, some aren’t new to the true Dave diehards out there. I’m not going to compete with them. I’ve listened to the whole thing and truly dig it. One of the ones that jumped out to me with its groove was “Break Free” (clip)

Happy Friday! / Happy Mommy’s Day Weekend!

Listened to a lot of music today and it really took me awhile to get all going. Work issues. We’ve all got them in some shape or form. The trick is pushing through it all and smiling at the end. Music is always my way.

Morning Babble Wake-up Playlist – click here

“Six Days in June” by the Fratellis is song #1 and has been my rock. I could play it all day. I could keep going. Alright, I’ll stop. Maybe.

Anyway – find your music playlist!

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • First up – Chase B along with Travis Scott & additional company (all-star package) came out with the song “Ring Ring” today (clip) That’s a telephone booth. Most kids don’t know about that. What do they think it is when Superman changes? (Lego clip) / Thankfully, Lego has the toy to sort of help them understand (Lego clip) / Reminds me of the time my son, Elliott, was with me and in one of our company vehicles, we had “manual” window controllers.
  • (clip) To close out the ACM Awards, Dolly Parton “rocked” the country music awards show with that song – the newly released “World On Fire” which will be on her upcoming Rockstar album. That’s right, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dolly Parton will have a rock album that includes 30-track rock album, out Nov. 17, will feature nine original songs and 21 iconic rock covers. Features a star-studded roster including Miley Cyrus, Lizzo, Sting, Sheryl Crow, Elton John, Chris Stapleton, Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty and more. (bad math)
  • Another new song from Ay-ron Jones (clip) That’s called “The Title” – his upcoming second album Chronicles Of The Kid due out in June. Again, Ay-ron Jones. Unfortunately, I had been calling him: Aaron. Reminds me of that skit on the sketch comedy show: Key and Peele (clip) Ay-ron, Ay-ron (clip)
  • Couple quick hits here of new music:
  • Lyell had a song called “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” out a couple months ago. Today, she’s got another one out that I also like – it’s called “I can’t take it.” (clip)
  • Jonas Brother’s new album is out in its entirety today and called The Album. They really mulled over that one. New song being pushed is “Summer Baby” (clip)
