morning babble: Yes – Christmas tree is up / Inspiring words from daughter Violet / Seth Godin quote

morning babble / Monday 11-14-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Happy Monday – keep saying that one – HAPPY Monday and then push out smile.

It’s hard work. I ran. I didn’t this weekend though. Boy had me at the ballfield on Saturday. Throwing, Catching, Pitching, Hitting. I’m feeling it. Equivalent to more than a run.

GOAL SETTING MONDAY –

On a Monday, I like talking about setting up goals for the week and then knocking them down the rest of the way. Today, I have quotes from my 7-year-old daughter for some inspiration and encouragement for your week:

  • Live your life
  • You be you
  • Stay awesome (stey asome)
  • It’s life
  • Achieve your dream (echeeve your dream)
  • Go Phillies

Please subscribe on YouTube and spread the Babble wherever you can – Thank you!

morning babble: Fasting recap, and then New Music Friday w/ Run the Jewels, Nas, Bruce, Rihanna / Billy Idol quote

morning babble / Friday 11-11-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Happy Friday – little slow start for me to the weekend this morning. I wanted to run, but the body said “no.” I think it’s just a weather issue with being so warm again. The body doesn’t know if we want to do the allergy season again or not. “Do we want to make him miserable again?” Please don’t. Cold air is arriving throughout the weekend – so, I believe I’m good.

3-Day Fast concluded with Pizza and Wings along with a couple beverages of beer. I was hoping for Tacos / hoping for a charcuterie board, BUT the family had other ideas, plus the kids had off today for parent/teacher conferences . . .so, we did our typical watching of our TV shows in the basement – we’ve been watching the Star Wars series “Andor” as well as “The Mysterious Benedict Society” – Season 2 for that one. Big Disney Plus Family here.

51 days until EXIT PLAN – more on that next week – I promise – Wednesday, I’ll update

Before the new music, I really do try to catch everything that I can. Sometimes, I miss really good ones like The Pretty Reckless with their recent album Other Worlds. Remember lead singer Taylor Momsen is all grown up from what she used to do as a kid. (play clip) – Yes, she was Cindy Lou Who in the film How the Grinch Stole Christmas – the one with Jim Carrey. Always surprises people because this is her today (play clip). All grown up.

I thought I missed out on a whole new Christmas album from an old-time rocker. I was shocked, but then I noticed the year 2021. I really missed this one. Billy Idol.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • In theaters today, we can see Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Couple weeks ago, we got to hear Rihanna’s first solo single in six years and it was via the Black Panther sequel’s soundtrack. That song was called “Lift Me Up.” We get to hear another new one that is off the same soundtrack which is out in its entirety today. This one is called: “Born Again.” (Clip) Remember, Rihanna is the halftime entertainment at the next Super Bowl.
  • I talked about this one a couple weeks ago – I think the same day as Rihanna. It’s one of my favorites – it’s Run the Jewels. Not a truly brand spanking new album, but nevertheless, a new one. Their 4th album RTJ4 has been remixed entirely by Latin artists and will be called RTJ Cu4tro – all songs have been remixed along with new versions of the tracks. AND – I’m all in. Run The Jewels – Ooh La La (Mexican Institute of Sound Remix feat. Santa Fe Klan)
  • Here’s a couple albums that you just should listen to because who the artists are: Coming back with his third installment of the King’s Disease albums is Nas with King’s Disease III. You actually get the one-two punch of Nas and Hit-Boy who many have viewed as being the premier rapper-producer combo in the entire rap game. And then one of the songs on the album is “Michael and Quincy” which is a nod to one of the all-time greatest artist-producer combinations of all time, Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones. (Here’s the song). Nas and Hit-Boy have linked up for their fourth full-length release in two years. Big album too – 17 songs over 50 minutes. Again – King’s Disease III
  • The other one is from the Boss – Bruce Springsteen dropped his latest with Only the Strong Survive. This past Wednesday, he announced he will have a short residency on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon to showcase songs from his 21st studio album, Only the Strong Survive. Springsteen’s four-night stand on “The Tonight Show” starts Monday and then returns for the show’s Nov. 15, Nov. 16 and Nov. 24 episodes. Another big album – 15 songs over 50 minutes. The “old timers” know how to crank them out.
  • And Finally – Christmas Music! Sorry, but our new Christmas tree arrives tomorrow – around 1000 LED lights, can do all kinds of tricks with them. Will it go up? I’m not sure yet. I certainly know that I don’t have room in the storage area right now for a big box like that. Soooooo – we’ll see. Anyway – new Christmas music from Devon Gilfillian. He released “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” – I think that’s it too – no whole album or anything. He’s touring right now, so this is probably one to throw into the mix along with “The Christmas Song” and “Winter Wonderland”, which he recorded a couple years ago.

Will the tree go up?

This past week I talked about wishing that I could read more, but since I’m writing more – I don’t have the time. So, I removed Twitter and TikTok from my phone. Instagram still there.

I can still check Twitter and TikTok on my laptop and I’ll still post there. It’s just not on my phone anymore.

Welcome to Tuesday – Go Vote! Tomorrow is a favorite day – all the political signs get taken down AND all the TV political commercials go away – yesssssssssssssssssss.

3-Day Fast is underway / I can eat again on Thursday at 6:42PM / My Dunkin streak of Cookie Butter Cold Brew ends at 5 days in a row. BUT – the one made for me yesterday was horrible. Well, it was still good, but compared to my prior 4 days. I was so bummed. It was a bad Dunkin location. We hit there around 3:15pm – they close at 5pm. Already – no donuts, muffins, bagels, nothing was available. The dude looked so mad that we walked in and kept talking on his phone the entire time taking the order. The actual drink lacked the cookie crumbles on top of the foam. AND – they didn’t have the proper lid that you drink through. No, they gave you the one with the hole in the center (Coolatta?) and told us to get a straw. You don’t want to enjoy this beverage that way. I removed the top and enjoyed it that way because you want a sip of the cookie cream on top prior to the cold brew. Using the straw – it doesn’t work that way. If that was my first one . . . I think my streak would have been 1.

PODCAST TUESDAY!

I have the meditation app called “Waking Up” from Sam Harris – author, philosopher, podcaster, not the singer.

Several months ago, I purchased it for the year, because I was doing the meditate every day goal in July. That was a good month – nice and chill.

Within the app, Sam does interviews, but he also has guests put out a series on a certain topic. Oliver Burkeman put together this series called “Time Management for Mortals” – I gobbled that up as he helps us “end our struggle with time.”

“Need to learn to say no to things that you do want to do” – Oliver Burkeman.

Happy Monday – back at it!

By way – all weekend, I wrote each day. Even after the Phillies lost the World Series on Saturday night. Plenty of beverages in and wanting bed badly – I still wrote.

Beginning my 3-Day Fast tonight after dinner. I so need this for so many reasons. The primary one is my recent addiction to the Cookie Butter Cold Brew from Dunkin. That’s a dessert in a cup. I will get one more today . . . because I can.

55 days until EXIT PLAN

GOAL SETTING MONDAY & REVIEW –

Last week, I had 4 paperwork days. The most that I have had in a long, long time. I am the most caught up and the most prepared for this upcoming week. BUT – I still was digging into work whenever I had spare moments this weekend. I didn’t mean for it to be that way, but I continued finding myself cracking open the laptop to do something for work – not for me personally, not the book, not other writing, but work for the business.

I’m having trouble stopping it. For the most part, I’ve done all the proper things with my phone settings. People can’t reach out to me late – but there are “emergency” ways. I don’t check email late nor first thing in the morning. I haven’t done it yet today. Baby steps to avoiding the job.

Now, I want to do a good job . . . actually, a great job, but that doesn’t mean it should own me. and THAT has been my battle.

On the flip-side, this forcing me to do 30 minutes of writing every night has been an eye opener for me. 1) I look forward to it. 2) I’m getting something done that I want to get done personally. I enjoy writing this.

What am I getting at? I need to keep creating limitations on work – it’s not healthy for me nor the business. I also need to set minimum limits on the goals for other things that I want to be doing.

Yes – it’s Friday. It’s been warm, so talking about the winter holidays and the new holiday drinks at all the coffee shops. I wasn’t feeling the hot lattes or mochas or whatever. So, I hit up Dunkin for their New Cookie Butter Cold Brew. That’s good stuff. I have no idea how many calories drank within that large beverage but it was worth it. It was glorious.

58 days until EXIT PLAN

Oh – speaking of calories: Some of you reached out and were disappointed in me with how I was stealing my kid’s Halloween Candy. Mouthful.

New Music Friday:

Taylor Swift has announced a massive 2023 stadium tour. Begins in March – it’s everywhere.

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • “We Are All Insane” says Awolnation. Election Day is Tuesday everyone – just vote – that’s all I’m saying. This is the 2nd release of next year’s anticipated new album, which will be the 5th album from the band, but apparently the final one as well. We’ll see. Frontman Aaron Bruno on the inspiration behind “We Are All Insane,” “I wrote the song during a time when the days of the week felt especially monotonous and I was searching for ways to stay creative and productive. I think that’s a feeling most people have experienced at some point in their lives, especially over the past few years.” Again, the song is called “We Are All Insane” Click here for the video.
  • Yo La Tengo have a whole new album on the way. It’s titled This Stupid World – it’s out next year on February 10th. Couple days ago, they shared one song from the album called “Fallout,” This Stupid World is the first full-length album from the band since 2020’s We Have Amnesia Sometimes.
  • Drake and 21 Savage have released their new collaborative album called: Her Loss. 16 tracks spread out over 60 minutes. I’m not the biggest of Drake fans, but I’ll give it a listen in its entirety at some point today or this weekend. I did catch a couple and immediately jumped to the one track done with Travis Scott. Can’t say the title of that song, which sort of gives you the heads up of not listening to this album with certain little people in the car.
  • Couple months ago we got “Filthy” from Mr. Ayron Jones. Today, we get another single called “Otherside”, but just like before – No news on a whole new album drop in the future. Click here for a video clip of the song. So, that’s two new songs this year – we have to be building towards a full album in 2023. If you haven’t heard it before, check out his prior album called – Child of the State – which was just released last year.
  • To tease her upcoming release, P!nk put out a little promo video which I saw via her Twitter. Click here for the promo. Within the caption it says “Have you called for your chance to win a free sample?! Dial 1-888-262-PINK” and, as it should, the number works with 3 options. Option #1 – gets you a sneak preview at the time of her new song; Option #2 gets you a text message with a link to get more updates on the song; and my favorite was Option #3 which gives you her tip of the day: “If you’re around someone who sucks all the air out of the room, go to another room.” Yeah, P!NK! The fun-sounding bouncy song is called “Never Gonna Not Dance Again” – click here for that video

HAPPY FRIDAY EVE!

It is such a good thing that I have a 3 Day Fast next week. I am stealing so much candy from my kids. So much. So good, but so much.

Starbucks holiday drinks are out: Peppermint Mocha, which turns 20 years old this holiday; Caramel Brulée Latte; Chestnut Praline Latte; Toasted White Chocolate Mocha; Irish Cream Cold Brew; and the nondairy Iced Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte

Gingerbread Latte and Eggnog Latte – not happening at Starbucks again this year

Dunkin’s Holiday Menu which kicked off yesterday includes a New Cookie Butter Cold Brew. Their specialty drinks include white chocolate signature latte, the peppermint mocha signature latte and the holiday blend coffee.

But again, no G-bread Latte nor Eggnog Latte – so, what to do, what to do – I’m coming for you Brew Haha. I know you’ll take care of me.

All this holiday talk gets people nervous, but in 3 weeks – it’s Turkey Day.
