Kevin Smith movie music / New Music Friday: Brent Faiyaz, Killer Mike, The 1975 / Eliza Dushku quote

morning babble / Friday 07-08-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

It’s great having those 3-day weekends with the 4th being this past Monday. BUT – it never ends up feeling like a shorter week. They always feel longer. Welcome to Friday – we all deserved it . . . probably as early as Wednesday, but we got it now.

177 days until EXIT PLAN

Clerks 3 trailer is out and I’m excited – click here for that. Movie out this fall.

I’m excited for the music that Kevin Smith will use. His movie – Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back have two of my favorite uses of music in them. The first one is with Bon Jovi’s Bad Medicine.

I don’t know how much of that I can play. And then Shannon Elizabeth introduces her friends and they have their own song.

That’s Eliza Dushku on the right.

New Music Friday:

  • A guy with a great first name released his latest album today – Wasteland – I’m talking about Brent Faiyaz. Checks in at just over an hour and spread out over 19 tracks. Although, some of those tracks aren’t full blown songs . . . one is even listed as a “skit.” Nevertheless, there’s a bunch of guest appearances from Tyler, the Creator to Alicia Keys to Drake as well as The Neptunes. Again, Brent Faiyaz with Wasteland.
  • The 1975 have officially announced their next album. Being Funny in a Foreign Language. Today, we get one of the 11 tracks called “Part of the Band,” which arrives with a new video as well. Full album drop . . . October 14th.
  • Run the Jewels is one of my favorites to listen to. Half the group is Killer Mike, who is back with his first new solo song in 10 years. The single is called “Run” and features a guest verse from Young Thug as well as an introductory monologue by Dave Chappelle. There’s a video out and it portrays a narrative of Black people fighting against fascists attempting to return the South to the Confederacy. Killer Mike – keeping it real good . . . all the time.
  • Brent Favorite – Old Sea Brigade aka Ben Kramer shares his latest single “Stayed Up Late” – it’s off his third studio album – 5AM Paradise – which drops October 28th. He has that acoustic chill sound going for him that you would experience in a coffeehouse . . . or at least on a coffeehouse playlist. Overall, check him out at Old Sea Brigade.

Sleep’s Dopesmoker via Third Man Records/ Still closing my eyes and meditating/ Marcus Aurelius quote

morning babble / Thursday 07-07-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Via the website Genius.com: “The Sleep album Dopesmoker consists of a single, 63 minute song written by the band over the course of 4 years during the mid 90’s. The band’s epic struggles to have it recorded and released between 1995, when they were first ready to record, and 2003 (remastered in 2012), when the 4th and final version was released, are legendary. Despite being rejected numerous times by record labels, Dopesmoker was highly critically acclaimed, and is now considered a touchstone of stoner metal and doom metal. Dopesmoker had been presumed to be Sleep’s final album for over a decade, before the release of The Sciences on 4/20/18.” Anyway – Third Man Records – Jack White’s record company

morning babble / Friday 07-01-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Last night, my wife and I went out for our 15th Wedding Anniversary. We had dinner at Snuff Mill – Restaurant – Butchery and Wine Bar. If you want to try, you have to book a reservation and bring money. I mean – it’s a nice dinner out! Driving around, I began playing my Morning Babble playlist – a bunch of songs that my wife hadn’t heard before, but I listen to every morning before I babble.

184 days until EXIT PLAN

I did meditate. (video clip) I so wanted Michael Hutchence to be holding a card that said “Meditate” – he did not though. Anyway though – Day 1 of the Waking Up app – it’s from Sam Harris – author, philosopher, podcaster, not the singer.

New Music Friday:

Music News – R&B Singer R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison following a conviction in federal court last year on sex trafficking. When’s the last time you heard one of his songs? Just the other day – I heard “I Believe I Can Fly” – 1996 song from the movie Space Jam.

  • Hard rocker, Shinedown – their 7th full-length studio album: Planet Zero is out today. As promised – a lot of music is on there. Nearly 50 minutes of new sounds divided up into 20 new songs. As mentioned before, the majority of the record is drums, bass, guitar, but there are piano songs – we got “Daylight” recently and I actually added that on my Morning Babble playlist. Today, we get, as Brent Smith sings in the song – the four letter word – “Hope.” And as I also stated before, Brent – that’s an awesome name.
  • Last night at midnight after days of being teased, Cardi B Released ‘Hot Shit’ Featuring Kanye West And Lil Durk. The song is apparently going to be on her upcoming album which is still unknown for the release date. It’s catchy. (Video clip) – I think that’s all I can play.
  • Last year, Imagine Dragons dropped Mercury Act 1. Fans accepted it . . . mainly because it was . . . you know – Imagine Dragons. But – Act 2 dropped today. More upbeat, more moving, more like the past sounds of Imagine Dragons, but still fresh. We already got the songs “Bones” and “Sharks” which sort of dictated the direction of this 2nd Act. The song being pushed today is “I Don’t Like Myself” – I enjoyed the storytelling and feelings revealed throughout that song.
  • Lastly, this song . . . I can already hear it in the clubs . . . if only I went to them. Yesterday, Charli XCX released “Hot In It” – a collaboration with Dutch DJ Tiësto, which as actually a part of his upcoming album. The song has instantly become a TikTok favorite.

“Tonight, I’m gon’ be rockin’ it, droppin’ it/Shake my ass, no stoppin’ it” More chorus. “I look hot in it, hot in it, I look hot in it.”

Checking email – my rule is don’t do it first thing in the morning. Don’t. Let your mind sort of do what it wants to do in the morning. Don’t taint it with a work email. I actually have my email nicely split into two icons. So, I can check my personal email (Gmail) without being bombarded with today’s “whatevers” from work.

I’ll tell you what I won’t be doing for July – Cold showers.

I will be doing meditation. I know – not really a challenge. BUT – I am going to make myself do it every day in July. I’ll be signing up through the Waking Up app – it’s from Sam Harris – author, philosopher, podcaster, not singer.

PODCAST TUESDAY!

I’ve talked about this one before – The Side Hustle Show with Nick Loper. Recently, he had Scott Keller on the episode called “The 6-Figure Bird Watching Blog”. You can log in and see specific birds “live” in their habitat/environment. Click here to check out Scott’s site. This reminds me of a couple clients who have put a camera on their fish tank and then provided a link on their website to view the tank “live”. This page ended up being the one that always received the most views.

morning babble / Monday 06-27-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

So, this past weekend – Saturday night – we were at Mimi and Papi’s place for another birthday dinner for my son, Elliott. He has had so many – I’ve gained weight because of his many birthday dinners. Anyway, at one point, both our kids were in the pool and I went to sit by the pool watching them. My mind was racing. I could not relax. I needed to do something. I left my phone back up on the patio area on purpose. I don’t believe that I have a real issue – something’s there – but not an addictive issue. I just couldn’t settle my head. I closed my eyes and tried to lasso it in. At one point, everyone checked on me to make sure that I wasn’t sleeping – I absolutely wasn’t. If only they knew what I was trying to control upstairs. Anyway, it got me thinking of meditation again. I know, I know. Eye roll. But – it is something that I’ve dabbled with before and makes sense.

Yeah – today arrived. Bad day yesterday . . . not “Feds invaded my house in the morning bad”, but I was looking forward to the end.

Wings, Beer, Pizza, last episode of Obi-Wan. Last week, I mentioned that there are 10 episodes. I was so wrong. I was looking up something last Friday and read that, but it was an article about the filming and they were thinking it would be 10, but it’s not – just 6. I’ll take what I can get though.

New Music Friday:

  • After being teased for the past several months, the wait is finally over. Taylor Swift dropped the full original song that she wrote for the film: Where the Crawdads Sing. By the way, the movie is out today. We knew the song was coming because 1) we heard bits of the song within the trailer and 2) Taylor teased us on social media. Not making fun – she’s just good at that. If she didn’t want to sing anymore, maybe she could help out the Babble.
  • Last week, I talked about her, but we didn’t have anything new officially OUT. Now, we’ve got something. I’m talking about Beyoncé. Recently, she announced that her next NEW album will be called Renaissance and is out July 29th. 16 tracks and the record includes the subtitle of “Act I.” ANYWAY – we can now listen to one of the new songs: “Break My Soul”
  • Lil Nas X . . . angry. Just released a new single, “Late To Da Party” – you see BET Awards revealed their nominations and Lil Nas X received none. And that’s uncalled for because he’s talented and deserving. There’s some pointed commentary directed towards BET within the song – no kids in the backseat kind of song and that’s all good. By the way, the BET Awards conveniently airs this Sunday and are, of course, late to the party or as the song goes “Late To Da Party.”
  • Dove Cameron released a follow up to her song “Boyfriend”. This one is called “Breakfast.” Within the chorus, ‘I eat boys like you for breakfast / One by one, hung on my necklace / And they’ll always be mine / It makes me feel alive.” If she asks about hanging out . . . uh, no – no, I don’t. I heard your new song, appreciate your honesty, I like the sound of it, but no hanging out.
  • Lastly, Eminem and Snoop Dogg have joined forces for what is being tagged as a bicoastal new song, “From the D 2 the LBC.” We also get a video along with it and within the video Em and Snoop switch between live footage of the rappers and an animated world where they transform into Bored Ape-looking avatars. Click here for the video.
