HAPPY FRIDAY EVE! – sort of

Please know that I see & hear what’s going on out there, but I like to try and bring something else to the table besides news or politics. BUT – I think we can all agree that any time one person is pointing something at another person . . . sad things are happening.

So, let me tell you a story about “A Gift from God”. I’m not really a religious person – spiritual, yes. Anyway – the year was 1997 . . . go watch that video.

I got a new card to flash. It all builds off of AMA Wednesday from a couple weeks ago when Claire (with an e) asked if I was going to do any monthly goals again. Last year, I did April Drought (No alcohol), July Cold Showers – every day for 31 days, Muddy November – enjoyed my Mudwater drink, but no coffee for the month.

So, for the first challenge of 2022 – I’m going meatless in March.

Video

No – no meat. No chicken, no burgers, no seafood, and . . . no bacon.

Video

Bacon is going to hurt. No more Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Sandwiches at Dunkin, also No more Snackin’ Bacon at Dunkin. So far it sounds like I’ll be saving money too.

Happy President’s Day! I gotta work. If you don’t have to . . . good for you.

I’m 48 years old. I have a 12-year-old son. It was a nice day out yesterday. We hit the nearby school’s baseball field for the 1st real warm-up of the year. I think my arm is going to fall off. I don’t even know what’s going on with my hips. I didn’t run yesterday nor today. And that’s okay.

I could have done better, but I chipped away

Week ahead –

I see a possible day off the road this week from work. I should be getting more of those days too which means more of my personal goals being accomplished.

I did see this rule the other day – the 5 by 5 rule. If it’s not gonna matter in 5 years – don’t spend more than 5 minutes being upset about it.

Record Store Day 2022 will be here in a little over 2 months – Saturday, April 23rd. Also, it returns to a one-day affair after pivoting to varied drops in 2020 and 2021. Taylor Swift, who is releasing a 7″ of “The Lakes.” Other notable releases include David Bowie’s Brilliant Adventure and Toy EPs; a new reissue of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Live Seeds; a picture disc of Kacey Musgraves’ Star-Crossed; an orange LP of St. Vincent’s The Nowhere Inn; and a CD release of Lil Wayne’s Sorry 4 the Wait. Click here for the full list

New Music Friday:

  • Benjamin Gibbard–curated compilation Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono. Before the album arrives, Gibbard and his band Death Cab for Cutie have shared their cover of Yoko Ono’s 1973 song “Waiting for the Sunrise.” In addition to Death Cab for Cutie, Ocean Child includes contributions from David Byrne, Yo La Tengo, Japanese Breakfast, the Flaming Lips, and others. A portion of the proceeds from Ocean Child will be donated to the nonprofit organization WhyHunger. The album’s release also coincides with Ono’s 89th birthday. Thank you Pitchfork for the breakdown on this one.
  • Frank Turner had a full album drop that occurred last Friday – missed it. The album is called FTHC. The single that’s out is “Fatherless”. It’s about his dad, who came out as a trans woman several years ago. This is what Turner has to say about his dad: “Miranda is a kind person, a considerate person and I’m not sure I can say the old one was.”
  • Philly guy, Kurt Vile released a single called “Like Exploding Stones”. It’s a dreamy-like 7+ minute guitar strum session with amusing lyrics. This is off his upcoming album release – (watch my moves) – which is out in its entirety on April 15th. The new album includes a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Wages of Sin.”
  • Keeping it local – sort of. Baltimore duo – Beach House. They have a new album out – Once Twice Melody. It’s not really my type of “jam” but I did enjoy listening to it last night as my daughter snuggled up and fell asleep on me while in the library.
  • Mimi Webb – I talked about her back in October (click here for that) – released today a new single called “House on Fire”. Initially, I thought she had a video to go with it, but after staring at her for about a minute, I realized that it was just an “audio” video with the cover of the single which is her as the video. Obviously, she’s not bad to look at. I really do like her voice though.
  • Breaking & Entering: “I hope you’re happy” by Games We Play. I saw this one on Tik Tok. The singer was goofing and playing a little ditty for his girlfriend who I guess has a ton of followers. It then went into this song.

PODCAST TUESDAY!

I listened to the Dave Chang podcast again today – it’s the Dave Chang show. They also have a Recipe Club podcast that they’ll be doing for another season, but the Chang show is weekly – you get two. Currently, Dave himself has begun a month-long challenge of a “No sugar / No alcohol” diet. I don’t believe I’ll be doing that one, but March will have something for me. Details coming, because I’ll need help with pushing that along.

I woke up early – didn’t run – but instead was going to jump into a couple things, “projects.” But then, my little girl came staggering out of her room with blanket in tow. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Daddy! I can’t think of better way to start today than snuggling you.” We snuggled this morning in a chair in the house library. What projects? Don’t matter when you can still get snuggles from your kids.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

Rams are the Super Bowl Champs. Yes, I posted last night that I was cheering on the Bengals, but in all honesty, I was fine with whoever. I’m so happy for Matthew Stafford who escaped the losing years of the Detroit Lions and got his ring with the Rams.

I did make wings – Strawberry Jalapeno Wings. BUT – we needed to make wings for the kids that weren’t so hot. So, we also made about 20 Blackberry Wings without the Jalapeno. THEY were so good. I need to try that recipe with Blackberry preserves – it was that good.

Recently, I’ve been doing AMA Mondays, but decided to push that to Wednesdays. Instead, I thought it was good to go over what I do every Sunday night / Monday morning.

Super Bowl Halftime Show – Super Bowl Halftime Line-up: Dr. Dre will be joined by Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar.

New Music Friday:

  • Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran – I think we’ve heard of both of them. Well, today we get a collaboration from the two and hear the single: “The Joker and the Queen.” These magical marketers know how to do it too – of course, they have a video: click here. The music video is a sequel to another duet of theirs “Everything Has Changed,” and reunites Ava Ames and Jack Lewis, the boy and girl who flirted with and befriended one another as preteens, now grown up and gone to college, with the same actors. Click here for that video.
  • Jack White has released ‘Fear of the Dawn’. This is another single to be taken from his first album of 2022 which is coming out April 8th with the very same name – Fear of the Dawn. 2nd album release comes out July 22nd which is called: Entering Heaven Alive. Are you following? Back to his 1st album release I’ve already preordered the vinyl to that.
  • Corey Taylor – the vocalist & guitarist for both Slipknot/Stone Sour is releasing another solo album this year. Coming out February 25th is his acoustic/covers compilation called “CMFB …Sides“. Today though, we get “On the Dark Side” – this is the song that was originally done by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band. That song appeared in the film ‘Eddie And The Cruisers‘ – the year 1983.
  • We get all of the new Spoon album today – Lucifer on the Sofa. Today’s release push is “Babe”, but I’m excited for the whole album which I haven’t gotten the chance to listen straight through quite yet. Rolling Stone gave it 4.5 stars
  • Eddie Vedder – that Pearl Jam guy – released a solo album today. Earthling is out – 13 songs – nearly 50 minutes of new stuff. Yet again – another full album that I can’t wait for.
  • Ben Rector – I’ve highlighted him before. Today, he’s released his 4th release from his upcoming album, The Joy of Music. It’s called “Steady Love.” As I’ve also mentioned before, he’s got Snoop Dog on one of these upcoming songs. Full album release is in the Spring.
