Back in 1985 on this date of March 7th, the song “We are the World” was released as a single. Written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, it was recorded for charity to help battle famine in Africa.
(“We Are The World”)
An incredible Netflix documentary was done on this recording – called The Greatest Night in Pop. Something like this will probably never happen again with this supergroup of musical talent from Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan to Ray Charles, Cyndi Lauper and Dionne Warwick. A magical day 40 years ago.
Speaking of magical, it’s National Cereal Day and I ran.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Greatness comes from fear. Fear can either shut us down and we go home, or we fight through it.” – by Lionel Richie
I’m looking forward to sitting here Friday for some New Music Friday.
Some names that I know will jump out to people with new albums coming out are: Lady Gaga, Jason Isbell, and Neil Young. However, I’m looking forward to hearing from the old punk guy – Bob Mould – I played him at the beginning and new punk sounds from Star 99
(“Kill” Star 99)
Happy Friday Eve and I did do this thing today. Mission Accomplished.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Music gives meaning to our moments. Each song shapes our memories, every verse is a new chance to know ourselves better, and time stretches out as the melodies remind us to feel deeply and love completely.” – by Topher Kearby
The other day I talked about how my daughter sings along to FITZ and The Tantrums – which is awesome. BUT – I have taught her the power of Angry Music, too.
(Korn “Shoots and Ladders”)
She requests that one from Korn. So good. I ran today.

Released on February 29th of 2000, that song, “Country Grammar” is officially 25 years old
Also, today is National Grammar Day – I have to talk “real good” during this one
(“Country Grammar” – Nelly)

Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.
When all else fails: there’s video!
(“End of Beginning”)
So, his name is Joe. Joe Keery. But, his musical name is spelled this way – Djo.
And the D is silent. So, it’s still Joe.
(Missed Music Monday opener)
“Basic Being Basic” by Djo was released back on January 24th.
(clip)
That’s not the one that I’m talking about though. Last Thursday, we got the 2nd release off his upcoming 3rd studio album – The Crux which arrives on April 4th.
(clip)
That song is “Delete Ya” – again 2nd release. There’s a total of 12 new songs on The Crux.
And lastly, for those who don’t know about Djo – he is American actor Joe Keery from the Netflix show – Stranger Things.

It is important to have a snare in your headphones. I’m missing one too.
Welcome to my closet.
(“Cleanin’ Out My Closet” song)
Every morning, I can be found here right around 4:45am sitting on this stool / ladder. Putting my shoes on.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “No matter how hard you work to bring yourself up, there’s someone out there working just as hard, to put you down.” – by Dr. Dre
My 9 year old little girl has grabbed onto that song and belts it out whenever she hears me playing it. It’s a great song for anyone to be inspired by.
(Fitz and The Tantrums “Ahhhh”)
That’s Fitz and The Tantrums – a show that I was simply given tickets to several years ago in Philly and thoroughly enjoyed. I knew they were good, but the happiness that they emitted. It was something. I think we could all use some happy right about now, right?

On this date back in 1995, Soundgarden won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance for that song “Black Hole Sun” – by the way, prior to recording that song, Chris Cornell listened to Sintra for inspiration.
(“Black Hole Sun”)
That was NOT Sinatra but just a little bit more of Black Hole Sun. For today, I was looking for something musical on this date. It was either Black Hole Sun or the fact that it’s Justin Bieber’s birthday. I chose my love for Chris Cornell.
By the way, I ran.

#60 – getting there.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Be yourself is all that you can do.” – by Chris Cornell
It’s a full weekend of March – already. What’s that phrase? “March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb.” Can that be reversed? In like a lamb, out like a lion. End of the month – Rawr. Who’s coming up for New Music Friday! Benson Boone, Marie Davidson, Lizzo, Yo La Tengo, and Grace VanderWaal
(Countdown Video)
New Music Friday:
American Idol drop-out, Benson Boone, it’s okay, he’s doing just fine (“Beautiful Things” clip) For this year’s Grammys, he was up for Best New Artist. By the way, did you see what happened during his performance? (clip) Could I have Heidi Klum and Nikki Glaser help me with my clothes like that? Make a phone call? New song from Mr. Boone (clip) He’s 22 – bet he doesn’t hear Mr. too often. That’s the latest from Benson Boone “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else” – ouch. With upcoming performances at Coachella and Governors Ball, I would not be surprised to hear some more new music is on the way,
(“Sexy Clown”) That’s called “Sexy Clown”. I don’t tap into the Dance music too often, but for some reason, I was oddly drawn here with my fear of clowns (goat) Marie Davidson just released her sixth album called City of Clowns – a city that I must say is NOT on my wish list to visit. (“Fun Times” clip) Now, the music from the City of Clowns album – I’m digging into it. 10 songs in all. The one that jumped out to me is “Fun Times” (clip)
Lizzo is back again this year (“Love in Real Life” clip) Besides her Barbie contribution from 2023 (clip), Lizzo hasn’t released any new music since her album Special from 2022 (“About Damn Time”) She has been in the news for some other things, but we’re not going to go there. Instead, let’s enjoy this new song called “Love in Real Life” (clip) Hey Ho. That reminds me of another song (Lumineers) Different sound, but the heying and the hoing is definitely happening in both songs. //
Several quick hits of new music: The original soundtrack for the 2006 film Old Joy was done by Yo La Tengo. That compilation soundtrack was called They Shoot, We Score. Today – Yo La Tengo released for the first time on vinyl – Old Joy – a six instrumental track EP. By way, this was all recorded in a single afternoon at Yo La Tengo’s studio in Hoboken. That was a busy afternoon. // End of March, we get Dreams On Toast – the 8th studio album from The Darkness. Today, we received the 4th song off the album – “Walking Through Fire” – be sure to check my Spotify playlist to hear that one! // And finally, once upon a time preteen America’s Got Talent ukelele girl – Grace Vanderwaal. She’s grown up. (clip) She is 21 now, but I still feel creepy. That’s her new song. “Babydoll” (clip)
Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Maybe that song’s a little excessive. Let’s play a little more.
(“The Greatest Man That Ever Lived”)
2 months down, 10 to go. Yeah. 5K Every Day.
(Day #59)
Really need some new shoes. (show the shoe) Just kidding – I don’t run in these.
