(“Vacation” Dirty Heads)

Not my typical set-up, but I’ve still got some new music to get to

(“Vacation” Dirty Heads)

(Morning Babble Intro)

Happy Weekend and as I enjoy myself a Cloudy & Cumbersome – I cheers on to others who might be vacationing as well (“Vacation” Go-Gos) I don’t think I’m going outside again like that. Got cooked on my only beach day this past week. My fault though – I need to apply the sunscreen before going to the beach. (“Black Hole Sun”)

Enough about me. I heard the yawns.

(Countdown Video)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • First up – Jack White (clip) he has his own record company called Third Man Records as well as exclusive benefits for his Vault members, which I am one. Recently, his new album was slipped into the orders of Third Man customers to the stores and then to some Vault members – special mail deliveries were sent out (clip) I was not as fortunate as Ralphie. No decoder ring for Brent. I had to wait like every one else for the digital midnight release of Jack White and his album – No Name. (picture) That looks so cool – I need to get me the vinyl next. Nearly 45 minutes of new music spread out over 13 songs. The one being pushed by Spotify is “That’s How I’m Feeling” (clip) I’ve listened to the entire album like 3, maybe 4 times. I also like the song “What’s the Rumpus” (clip) Sorry – that’s the definititon. I remember growing up and my parents always saying “This isn’t a rumpus room”? (clip)
  • Just last year, Killer Mike released his album – Michael – which won him the GRAMMY for “Best Rap Album” (clip) In a recent press release that I learned about through the Pitchfork website (thank you to Jazz Monroe) Killer Mike said, “I had a year to live with Michael, and I realized I had more I wanted to do with this sound before moving on.” (“Humble Me” clip) That song is called “Humble Me” but there are 9 more songs on this new record titled Songs for Sinners & Saints. BUT – the album is not being attributed to Killer Mike but instead Michael & the Mighty Midnight Revival aka Killer’s Mike’s gospel group (clip)
  • Couple weeks ago, I played the Peck and Beck song “Death Valley High” (clip) That was like the 6th release off of Orville Peck’s upcoming album – Stampede. Today though – we have all 15 songs to enjoy and I will (clip) That Willie Nelson duet will forever make me smile Anyway – the next song being pushed forth off the album is the duet with Debbi Dawson. This one is called “Back at Your Door.” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Sopie Allison, who goes by Soccer Mommy, has announced her new album (4th overall as the Soccer Mommy) called Evergreen which arrives on October 25th. New song off the album is available to hear – it’s called “M”. Yes, the letter “M” // One of my favorites – Father John Misty – is releasing a career-spanning greatest hits album called – Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams and My Dreams Said to Crawl. The only new song being found on this album is called “I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All” but this song will also be appearing on a whole new album later this year. // Caribou has shared a new song, “Volume” which did a makeover to the hit song from 1987 – “Pump Up the Volume” (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

Be sure to check out the playlist on Spotify. As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from Porridge Radio, Fuller, and Judah & the Lion and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

(clip)

A guy’s worst nightmare to hear today “Happy Friendship Day!”

That’s what it is. Some dude just got tagged in a picture from his girl “friend” – fun.

By the way, that’s Andrew Gold who does that Golden Girls Theme Song. He also does another popular song that some of us will be hearing rather shortly:

(Spooky, Scary Skeletons)

I saw Halloween candy in the stores this past weekend – crazy.

(“Hard Working Man” cut)

From 2022, that’s “Hard Working Man” off the Marcus King album – Young Blood. Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach produced it, so I was all over it. Somehow though, I totally missed the most recent album of Marcus King.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

I actually have two saved albums on Spotify of Marcus King, but when his Mood Swings album came out this past May – not on my radar.

(“Delilah” cut)

Sort of sounds like Cee-Lo / I know – neither one looks like one another

(“Hero” cut)

Nevertheless, if you want some bluesy rock sounding music with rich guitar. Any album from Marcus King is going to get that for you.

Tune in tomorrow for: Quote of the Day!

Congrats to Amy Shark for the blink-182 Trifecta! / New Music Friday: Big B, Grace Bowers, Ice Spice / G. Love quote

(“Sidecar”)

That is a new song. Just heard it today. Loving it already.

(“Sidecar”)

(Morning Babble Intro)

Happy Weekend – welcome to New Music Friday. We’ll get to that new song shortly. First – let’s talk about . . . who am I kidding

(Countdown Video)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Batting lead off, Vegas rapper, Big B just dropped Wellness Check, his first album since pandemic times (“Time” cut) Back in 2013, I enjoyed The Dirty Heads as they sang with Big B on their song “”Hangovers With You” (clip) Another band that has a similar sound to The Dirty Heads can be heard on this album’s cut which I also played at the very beginning (clip) Guesting on the song is G. Love and the Special Sauce along with Peachole. Their song is called “Sidecar” – loving it. (cut of “Pretend”) Now that is today’s Spotify song push which is called “Pretend” & is another duet for Big B who is joined by a favorite of mine, Killer Mike
  • (“Hodgepodge” meaning) Grace Bowers has a band and its called The Hodge Podge (clip) ‘Tell Me Why U Do That’ was the first release off the group’s upcoming album called Wine On Venus which arrives fully on August 9th – so close (“Wine on Venus”) Today, we received the 3rd release of the album and its called “Dance to the Music.” (clip)
  • Ice Spice has released her Y2K album – don’t blink though – it’s 10 songs spread out over about 23 minutes – as my wife stated – that’s an album-ette. (“Phat Butt”) Don’t worry – there’s more. I didn’t play the whole thing. By the way, it’s called Y2K because January 1st 2000, the date of Y2K is her birthday. Today’s push from Spotify is her duet with Travis Scott called “Oh Shhhh” (clip)
  • It’s official. Amy Shark has completed the blink-182 Collaboration Trifecta. On her first album, she got Mark Hoppus to sing along with her “Pyscho” song (cut) Shark’s sophomore album included blink’s little drummer boy, Travis Barker, on the her song “C’Mon” (cut) So, could she do it. Get Mr. Tom DeLonge to join in on a song? I already told you, so this now lacks suspence. I do like their song together though. It’s called “My Only Friend” (cut)
  • Several quick hits of new music: The Pixies have announced their first album with new bassist Emma Richardson. Due out in October 25th is The Night the Zombies Came. I like the name of the new single released: “Chicken” // JD McPherson released a 2nd track off his Nite Owls album which will becomes available on September 27th. The song is called “Shining Like Gold” // Just in time for the Olympics because well it’s tagged the Official Olympic song is the one from Gwen Stefani and Anderson .Paak – this is “Hello World” (clip)

As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from Jane’s Addiction, Jelly Roll with mgk, and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Sadly, I missed this one despite being on the email list for AWOLNATION. So, I was warned about this song’s new release.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

“I Am Happy” is the 3rd release off the band’s fifth album: The Phantom Five due out next month on the 30th.

(“I Am Happy” clip)

Guesting on the song is Del The Funky Homosapien who happens to do one of my favorite raps on the Gorillaz song “Clint Eastwood”

(“Clint Eastwood” clip)

AWOLNATION – I’ll be fully ready for the whole album on August 30th

Who rides the wrecking ball better: Miley or Super Nana? / New Music Friday: Bryce Fox, bby, Glass Animals

morning babble / Friday 07-19-24

DISCLAIMER:

This is the scribble that leads to the babble.

Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.

When all else fails: there’s video!

(Breeders “Cannonball”)

That’s the beginning of the song “Cannonball” by the Breeders. My grandmother – Super Nana – use to have an actual cannonball outside of her house. When Miley Cyrus came out with her song “Wrecking Ball”, my grandmother joked about setting it up like Miley did in her video. I miss my Super Nana.

(Miley Cyrus “Wrecking Ball”)

(Morning Babble Intro)

Happy Weekend! Who wants to swing around on a wrecking ball? I forgot about that song from Miley. I’m not sure if my grandmother ever got the chance to really saw the entire video (clip) because there were some parts that I’m hoping she would not be reenacting. (clip) How did we get here? Well, Kim Deal has a new solo song out called “Coast.” (clip) If you don’t know where Kim Deal came from – well, let me show you (clip) Kim Deal is the Breeders singer and guitarist. That song is “Cannonball” All these thoughts came tumbling out because of Kim’s new music. Speaking of new.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Glass Animals just dropped their 4th studio album in nearly 4 years – as for the title, well it would make author Mark Manson proud. (clip of Manson’s book) Just like the book, people are going to have some difficulty explaining what they’re listening to. Album title is: I Love You So F***ing Much. BUT – I have to admit. Everywhere that I see this album – it isn’t spelled out fully. (picture of album) I know, I know. I understand the inteniton, but enough about the album title – music! 40 minutes of music spread out over 10 songs. I’ve been all in since the first release (clip of “Creatures in Heaven”)
  • bby – called Baby – has their new album out called “1”. By the way, don’t google Baby and 1 – you’ll hear things that you don’t want to really hear again (“Hit Me Baby One More Time”) The album is called 1 because . . . well . . it’s their first one. Several songs of this album have already been released and I’ve talked about them. 16 in total but today’s push is going towards the song: “Kinky” (clip)
  • Couple weeks ago, I was looking for more info on Jack Kays who released “Blow It” (clip) All I could find is that he’s from Cinncinnati, Ohio, which led me to the interesting political tidbit that the name of Grant’s horse was Cinncinnati (clip) Jack Kays has been busy and just released that song “Get A Job.” There’s a part in there that made me laugh. I’m going to have to clip it and send it to my businness partner named Bob (clip)
  • Before we get into the quick hits of new music, I’m highlighting this one from Bryce Fox (clip) That’s his latest song called “Drip.” Back in May, he dropped a 5-Song EP. Since then, he’s released “Shadows” (clip) and now “Drip” – I smell LP coming. Let’s play “Drip” again (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Hippo Campus just released “Paranoid” which is the first single off the upcoming September 20th release of their album: Flood. I’m a fan of Hippo Campus, but when I hear about a Flood album – I have a favorite (“Birdhouse in Your Soul”) That’s an album from 1990 but it’s so good. Love you – They Might Be Giants // Japandroids released a new song called “Chicago” which is great. BUT – they also announced that this will be off their upcoming album called Fate & Alcohol due out on October 18th. Why the But? They also announced it’s their last album. // Childish Gambino also just released his final album as the Childish Gambino. It’s called Bando Stone and the New World. FYI – it’s also the soundtrack to Donald Glover’s movie that goes by the same name. // Did I tell you about Bryce Fox and “Drip”? (cut)

As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from Sports Team (full album arrives FEB 2025), Amy Allen (really enjoying her), Untraceable Records has a fun song – ehhh, let’s play a bit (clip), and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Happy Friday Eve! And – a Happy Birthday to “Machine Gun” Kelly

(clip)

Wrong one – I was referencing the actual gangster – George “Machine Gun” Kelly. He actually died a day before his 54th birthday. So close.

Since I played MGK though – remember his fiancee is or was Megan Fox
