Hi. We made it. A full solid week after a holiday fun-filled work shortened week last week . . . is never fun. So, again – we made it. You know who else made it?

Nickelback reached number one on the recent week’s Hot Hard Rock Song’s chart for their song “How You Remind Me” which came out 23 years ago in 2001. Why? Well, Netflix released the band’s new documentary called “Nickelback: Hate to Love.” (clip) I haven’t seen it. I’ll be honest I was never all in on the band, but they don’t have bad music. (“Photograph”) That line always bothered me though – “And what the hell is on Joey’s head?” As for what that exactly is on Joey’s head, well apparently it was a champagne bucket. I’ll provide a link to the webiste explaining it all. For a quick peak at the image, I’ll have to play the beginning of the “Photograph” video (clip)

New Music Friday:
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
First up – Orville Peck – he has some interesting songs (clip) The song is called “Cowboys are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other” – it’s a duet with Willie Nelson. It’s included on his Stampede: Volume 1 album which came out this past May. It’s fun and very good. (clip) Today though, there’s another duet he’s performing on, but this time – it’s with Beck (clip) The song will appear on Peck’s Stampede: Volume 2 duets album which is fully released on August 2nd. Here’s the new song called “Death Valley High” (clip)
Katy Perry has a new song out (clip) (using inhaler) She’s so healthy. Play more – by the way, it’s called “Woman’s World” (clip) I’m just going to sit for a little bit. That single is set to appear on Katy’s upcoming album 143, which will be released on September 20th. Is it hot in here? (be right back)
(clip) The 12th studio album is out now from Eminem and it’s called The Death of Slim Shady. He’s angry. Sounds like he’s trying to get cancelled. (clip) I’m still listening to it – quietly. Several quick hits of new music: Mustafa has announced his debut studio album called Dunya (Dune-E-uh) is out on September 27th. One of the producers on the just released “SNL” song is Aaron Dessner. He’s from The National – I’m a fan. // Welsh producer-songwriter – Kelly Lee Owens has a new song out called “Love You Got” – go listen to that dancing fun // We got a couple songs that were previously released but today we have new acoustic versions. One is from Awolnation and “Panoramic View” – the other is “Fortnight” with Post Malone and Taylor Swift

Happy Weekend – I apologize ahead of time for the AC vent fan running. With today’s heat, there ain’t no stopping that AC today. I’ll just talk “really louder.” Also, I’m hoping every one was able to enjoy a long holiday weekend. Some people had to work though – like the people in the ER for all those firework shenanagins. And that’s why I stay inside. That and air conditioning. Back to the Clerks movie from 1994 (clip) Yes – I fully believe that the movie is a theatrical masterpiece, but I’m not going to talk about that. Instead, movie soundtracks. I miss them (dance clip) The song in the background that Jay and Silent Bob are getting their groove on to is “Violent Mood Swings” from Stabbing Westward. (clip) The rest of the movie and soundtrack includes songs from Girls Against Boys, Bad Religion, and Alice in Chains (“Got Me Wrong” clip) Speaking of Alice in Chains – they were very much a part of another great soundtrack of alltime which just turned 32 this past June 30th. I’m talking about the movie Singles and it’s soundtrack which included all the rockers of that time: Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone and, yes, Alice in Chains (clip) I don’t have enough time for it, but Mallrats had a killer soundtrack too.

New Music Friday:

Couple weeks ago – the Detroit rapper – Eminem released a new song from his upcoming album (“Houdini” clip) The song was called “Houdini.” He’s back again with another new song but this time, he’s joined by couple fellow Michiganders. Big Sean and BabyTron can be heard on the 2nd release of the new album which is called: The Death of Slim Shady and due out in its entirety next Friday (7/12). Here’s the song – “Tobey” (clip)
I’m a little out of the loop on this one, but I guess it’s been teased out for a couple weeks on social media about something going on between Quavo and Lana Del Rey. Both have remained shhhhh about the nature of their relationship, neither confirming nor denying the dating rumors. So, what did they just do? They released a new song together called “Tough” (clip) That’s very snuggly. Good crossover song with the hip-hop/country thing going on. Apparently, the song might be highlighted on the new country album from Lana Del Ray called: Lasso and could be coming out this September.
(“Little Foot Big Foot” clip) Last month, actually it’s now July, so two month’s ago Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino did a rerelease which he described as “the finished version of 3.15.20.” This time it was given the title – Atavista (“Atavista” clip) But now, he has released another new song, but this time off what Glover claims is the “final” Childish Gambino album, Bando Stone & the New World, is out July 19. This is “Lithonia” (clip)
Several quick hits of new music: If the sound of country is your taste in music, then you are in luck. Zach Bryan released over an hour of music spread out amongst 19 songs under the album title of: The Great American Bar Scene // Killer Mike is still killing it. Via the 2024 BET Awards, he won Album of the Year for Michael. A whole new single dropped called “Humble Me.” I won’t lie. I’m looking forward to the next Run the Jewels album, Mike // and finally I’m cheering this one on and I’ve always been a closet fan of Kesha (clip) Today, she has releasesd her first single as an independent artist called “Joyride” (clip)

This past Friday, The Man in the Black, via his son and producer of the album – John Carter Cash, released the album: Songwriter

That’s track #2 “Spotlight” which features guitar from The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach. I’m still digging into the album – 11 tracks in all, which were each built around the original vocal and acoustic guitar of Johnny Cash. Again, the album is called: Songwriter.

Morning Babble Intro
Happy Weekend! It’s still hot out. Sprinkler time or better yet – slip and slide time (clip) You felt every root in the backyard during that “fun” – all while ruining the grass. Dad was never happy. So – that’s what to do during the day. At night – what’s good on TV, but The Bear! (clip) I’m not going to ruin it for anyone. I’ve only seen Episode 1 of this third season. Episode 2 apparently has that Eddie Vedder song in it (another clip) Season 3 of The Bear is all out too – all 10 episodes. I am NOT much of a binge watcher. I like to spread out my enjoyments of the show. My wife on the other hand – she could binge watch and go until 4am or until or eyes bleed (clip) We’ll probably have the season done by Monday. If you haven’t seen it – The Bear – it’s on Hulu. It’s a must. I truly want to be a part of something like this – one day. It’s just so good and so inspiring at the same time for me.

The moment I heard the first couple notes of this song, I perked up. (clip) Then, the drums came in along with vocals. (clip) “Who is this?” I asked aloud and quickly found out its someone that I’ve witnessed live: J.D. McPherson (clip) That song is “Sunshine Getaway” and it’s the first tease of McPherson’s fourth album: Nite Owls which will become available on September 27th. (Christmas clip) Alright it’s McPherson’s fifth album if you include his holiday album – Socks – which is only one of the greatest collection of original Christmas songs of all time. (Happy Ho, Ho, Ho to you) Hmmm, might be tied with Sia.
(clip) ‘Tell Me Why U Do That’ is the name of that song. AND – I know – I’ve talked about this 17 year old guitar prodigy before – her name is Grace Bowers and and her band is called The Hodge Podge. I was all in on that other song, but today we get the title track of her highly anticipated debut album which arrives on August 9th called “Wine On Venus” (clip)

The band – The Dare – had their own version of a song called “Girls” (clip) Little edgy and taken from their EP titled: The Sex EP – no beating around the bush there, just all out going for it. Today, a new song from The Dare is here (“Perfume” cut) Called “Perfume” that’s the first release off of their debut album: What’s Wrong With New York? – fully exposed on September 6th. By the way, my go to karaoke song is the Beastie Boys “Paul Revere” (clip)

Several quick hits of new music: The sixth album from the band: Imagine Dragons is out now 10 songs, but just a minute past a half an hour of music – it’s called Loom // Jack Kays who’s from Cinncinnati, Ohio – that’s what I read everywhere as I tried to find out about a possible new album. He does have a new song out called “Blow It”. Here’s my only political comment of the show – the favorite horse of President Grant went by the name of Cincinnati // Chaz Bear who is known professionally as Toro y Moi – isn’t that a mix of Spanish and French? Anyway, due out September 6th, is his album: Hole Erth. Couple weeks ago – actually missed this one – it came out on June 12th – a Wednesday – the song is called “Tuesday” (clip)
