“What I Got” cut
Bradley James Nowell was the lead singer of the band: Sublime.
“What I Got” cut
The son – Jakob Nowell – was only 11 months old when his father died in May of 1996. Today (June 25th) it’s Jakob’s birthday. Also today, he has taken over for his dad and is lead singer of Sublime.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: Taking his lyrics of the song “What I Got”
“Life is too short, so love the one you got.” – Bradley Nowell / Happy Birthday, Jakob!

(“All I Want Is You” clip)
Its been 6 years since the band – The Decemberists – came out with a new album. Their 9th studio album was released a little more than a week ago. I’m a little late.
(Missed Music Monday opener)
As found on their Wikipedia page, Colin Meloy (lead singer) has stated that the name – The Decemberists – is meant to invoke the “drama and melancholy” of the month of December. I wish it would invoke some cooler temps here in June.
(“Burial Ground” clip)
That’s Track #1 – “Burial Ground” – one of my favorites. By the way, definitely a modern day prog rock feel on Track #13 which does take up nearly 20 minutes of the album which is called: As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again.

“Yellow” cut
I’ve never been much of a Coldplay fan, but Coldplay did make me love the writing of Chuck Klosterman. I can explain.
“Yellow” cut
Morning Babble intro
Happy Weekend – it’s officially summer and how does it feel already? Let’s check with that kid in the backseat (clip) Yup – I fully agree. Wholeheartedly. Very Hot. BUT – cool things off and talk about Coldplay. Was that a good transition? (“This is crazy” clip)
Alright – I didn’t think it was that bad – Coldplay – obviously, they are an extremely successful band, so for me to state not being a fan . . . I don’t believe hurts them at all and I’m certainly not out to get them or anything either (Clocks clip). See – I keep playing songs from them. In fact, I totally dig the piano that Chris Martin performs on during their concerts and shows (clips). It’s the music that I’m just not going to crank up and rock out to. I realize that it’s not “junk” but quality music and very well done, – just not my taste. (Tom Hanks with food) BUT – you know who else shares my feelings towards Coldplay music – Chuck Klosterman (show book stack). There’s no Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs book because I let someone borrow that book and haven’t gotten it back yet. We’ll show a clip of the book cover (clip) – very poplular book from 2003. There’s a particular essay in it called “This is Emo”. Basically, Chuck got mad because a girl he liked chose NOT to be with him but instead flew off to Portland instead to see the first US appearance by Coldplay – “a British pop group whose success derives from their ability to write melodramatic alt-rock songs about fake love.” The next line is the craziest, but also filled with creative profanity that I can’t really say here. My daughter sometimes watches. I will provide a link though! But – ever since that essay – I was all in on Klosterman. I think I excidely stated in bed – I love this guy.

New Music Friday:
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
Alright – let’s get this one out of the way – Coldplay – heard of them? (Travolta lost clip) They are releasing a new album, Moon Music, on October 4th. After all the success of their most recent album from 2021 – Music of the Spheres – if it’s not broke . . . why not go back to the very same producer again, Max Martin – so they did. Today, we’ve got the LP’s first single and it’s – imagine that as Klosterman stated “an alt-rock song about fake love” – this one is grouped together as one big word but still says “Feelslikeimfallinginlove.” (clip)
Couple months ago, we got the first glimpse of the new album coming from Fontaines D.C. as they gave us the album’s track #2 song – “Starburster” (clip) As August 23rd creeps closer and closer – that’s the drop date for the band’s fourth album called Romance. It’s about that time to get another tune. Today, it’s track #11 on the album called “Favourite” (clip)
J.J. Abrams has done a lot of television shows and movies (Solo “we’re home” clip) I still get chills from that scene. Anyway besides the Hollywood stuff, he had several kids, too – one who goes by the name of Gracie (“Block Me Out” clip) Past couple months, we got to hear a couple singles from her called “Close to You” and “Risk” (“Risk” clip). Today though – we have the entire album which is called – The Secret of Us – 13 tracks. 13 – that’s a good number especially for who joined her on the song currently being pushed on Spotify. This is “us” from Gracie Abrams and Taylor Swift (clip)
Several quick hits of new music: Post Malone released another new song from his upcoming country music album called F-1 Trillion – release date is August 16th. Teamed up with Blake Shelton for: “Pour Me a Drink” – that sounds like a good idea // Ice Spice has revealed that her upcoming album release date of Y2K will be Friday, July 26th. By the way, it’s called Y2K because January 1st 2000, the date of Y2K is her birthday. She just released a new song called “Phat Butt” // King Krule released a surprise new EP called: Shhhhhhh! (there are 7 h’s). The song that had a video made for it was “Time for Slurp” (clip)

(clip of “Son of a Preacher Man”)
Fellow Son of a Preacher Man but lead singer of the band – Good Looks, Tyler Jordan was told that playing an instrument went against God’s word. Thankfully, he didn’t listen. (credit to uproxx)
(Missed Music Monday opener)
So, the lead singer overcame the religious thing, but then back in April 2022, the lead guitarist survived getting hit by a car and fracturing his skull & tailbone.
(clip of “If It’s Gone”)
Today though, we do have their new album – Lived Here For Awhile – to enjoy. AND – the UPROXX website has already declared it one of the best rock albums of 2024. I totally missed this one, but I’m digging into it now.

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
First up – we’re going local . . . at least for me – Philadelphia’s Mondo Cozmo (Angels cut) About a month ago, we got that first song – “Angels” – off of his 4th upcoming album called – It’s PRINCIPLE! For the whole album – we’ll have to wait until August 30th. For another song off the album – thankfully – he gave that to us a couple days ago (“Wild Horses” cut) That beginning part on “Wild Horses” – that’s the name of the song – I started thinking and feeling like The Black Keys, but then, I read his website bio and someone had made the comparison of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (“Beat the Devil’s Tattoo”) That’s a rabbit hole to go down in to at some point. The song there is called “Beat the Devil’s Tattoo” – one of the more popular songs from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Personally, I enjoyed the entire Howl album. I’ve taken a “tangented” – I know, not a word. Let’s get back to Mondo Cozmo (more “Wild Horses”) Taken directly from his website’s bio page – “Much of the album’s lyrical matter addressed the impending death and the emotions he was going through at that time.” What death – the impending death of his dog, Cozmo. I love this guy! Back to the quote: “As he felt Cozmo’s time slipping away, he spent more time with the dog, including bringing him to the studio during the sessions.” Go preorder the album – It’s PRINCIPLE!
(“Make It All Right” cut) When I first heard this song . . . the hook got me, but I didn’t recognize the singer’s voice. Turns out it’s Dexter Holland of the The Offspring (“Pretty Fly” cut) Yeah, that Offspring. By the way, the band’s new song “Make It All Right” was released a week ago and should have easily been a candidate for Missed Music Monday, but I literally just heard it a couple days ago via Sirius XM’s Regan. (cut) I think there was some editing that went on there. By the way, back in 2017, lead singer Dexter graduated with a Ph.D. in molecular biology. It’s Dr. Offspring now, huh. The band’s 11th album – Supercharged – will fully drop on October 11th (“Pretty Fly” cut)
This past Monday, for Missed Music Monday, I did talk about Sabrina Carpenter and her songs “Please Please Please” and “Espresso” (“Espresso” cut) She had a co-writer on both of those songs by the name of Amy Allen, who back on May 1st released a song of her own called “a girl with a problem” (cut) That was the 1st taste of her upcoming self-titled new album which she announced this past week to be fully released on August 23rd. We also received track #1 of the album called “darkside” (cut)
Several quick hits of new music: Glass Animals come out with a new album next month on July 19th and just last week, they released the 2nd song off of this album. BUT – I have to admit – I’m still really enjoying “Creatures in Heaven” – do yourself a favor and go listen to that one again // Just last month, Judah and the Lion came out with a new album called: The Process / 19 songs / hour of music / So, what do they do? Team up with the indie-pop trio band called: Joseph and release another song called “Measure of A Man” // Another guy who just released an EP last month called The Bomb. Decided to drop off another new song for us. Can’t slow this guy down – Bryce Fox with “Shadows” (cut)

“Twist and Shout” clip
The 1964 Beatles cover of “Twist and Shout” has been called “the most famous single take in rock history” – John Lennon did 1 take and had nothing left for take number two. You don’t even want to know how many takes I need for this.
“Twist and Shout” from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Courtesy of the 1986 release of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the song returns to the charts yet again.
