New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • First up – we’re going local . . . at least for me – Philadelphia’s Mondo Cozmo (Angels cut) About a month ago, we got that first song – “Angels” – off of his 4th upcoming album called – It’s PRINCIPLE! For the whole album – we’ll have to wait until August 30th. For another song off the album – thankfully – he gave that to us a couple days ago (“Wild Horses” cut) That beginning part on “Wild Horses” – that’s the name of the song – I started thinking and feeling like The Black Keys, but then, I read his website bio and someone had made the comparison of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (“Beat the Devil’s Tattoo”) That’s a rabbit hole to go down in to at some point. The song there is called “Beat the Devil’s Tattoo” – one of the more popular songs from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Personally, I enjoyed the entire Howl album. I’ve taken a “tangented” – I know, not a word. Let’s get back to Mondo Cozmo (more “Wild Horses”) Taken directly from his website’s bio page – “Much of the album’s lyrical matter addressed the impending death and the emotions he was going through at that time.” What death – the impending death of his dog, Cozmo. I love this guy! Back to the quote: “As he felt Cozmo’s time slipping away, he spent more time with the dog, including bringing him to the studio during the sessions.” Go preorder the album – It’s PRINCIPLE!
  • (“Make It All Right” cut) When I first heard this song . . . the hook got me, but I didn’t recognize the singer’s voice. Turns out it’s Dexter Holland of the The Offspring (“Pretty Fly” cut) Yeah, that Offspring. By the way, the band’s new song “Make It All Right” was released a week ago and should have easily been a candidate for Missed Music Monday, but I literally just heard it a couple days ago via Sirius XM’s Regan. (cut) I think there was some editing that went on there. By the way, back in 2017, lead singer Dexter graduated with a Ph.D. in molecular biology. It’s Dr. Offspring now, huh. The band’s 11th album – Supercharged – will fully drop on October 11th (“Pretty Fly” cut)
  • This past Monday, for Missed Music Monday, I did talk about Sabrina Carpenter and her songs “Please Please Please” and “Espresso” (“Espresso” cut) She had a co-writer on both of those songs by the name of Amy Allen, who back on May 1st released a song of her own called “a girl with a problem” (cut) That was the 1st taste of her upcoming self-titled new album which she announced this past week to be fully released on August 23rd. We also received track #1 of the album called “darkside” (cut)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Glass Animals come out with a new album next month on July 19th and just last week, they released the 2nd song off of this album. BUT – I have to admit – I’m still really enjoying “Creatures in Heaven” – do yourself a favor and go listen to that one again // Just last month, Judah and the Lion came out with a new album called: The Process / 19 songs / hour of music / So, what do they do? Team up with the indie-pop trio band called: Joseph and release another song called “Measure of A Man” // Another guy who just released an EP last month called The Bomb. Decided to drop off another new song for us. Can’t slow this guy down – Bryce Fox with “Shadows” (cut)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

Be sure to check out the playlist on Spotify. As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from Don Toliver teaming up with Kodak Black, Pharrell Williams, Emmaline and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Talent is insignificant. I know a lot of talented ruins. Beyond talent lie all the usual words: discipline, love, luck, but, most of all, endurance.” – James Baldwin

Borrowing words from someone else in an attempt to spread happiness everywhere or at the very least – a reasonable range. Hey – go click that video!

“Greatest Man That Ever Lived” cut

He is a great one – from Weezer – Mr. Rivers Cuomo – Happy 54th Birthday!

So, you’d think today’s quote of the day will be from him – nope – that’s on Father’s Day – got a good one from him. I’ve got a Stoicism quote today

(Marcus Aurelius from Gladiator)

From the movie Gladiator, the late Richard Harris playing Marcus Aurelius

“Twist and Shout” clip

The 1964 Beatles cover of “Twist and Shout” has been called “the most famous single take in rock history” – John Lennon did 1 take and had nothing left for take number two. You don’t even want to know how many takes I need for this.

“Twist and Shout” from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Courtesy of the 1986 release of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the song returns to the charts yet again.

(Clip of “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter)

I like the little espresso mugs that they have for shots. My problem is I want more than one shot, so I need a bigger espresso mug.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

That song at the beginning was “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter. On Friday, I saw that there was a new song out by her . . . but I sorta overlooked it

(Clip of “Please Please Please”)

“Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter for her album due out on August 23rd.

Little help from Amy Allen who has a new single coming out Wednesday.

AND – Jack Antonoff who’s band Bleachers just had their own new album and yes – he helped some girl named Taylor, too.

(“Everything is Awesome” cut)

That song is so addicting

(“Everything is Awesome” cut)

Happy Weekend! And yes – I put some Lego figures on pencils to mimic that song from the Lego Movie – (“What the heck is that?” clip) I’m only bringing this up because Pharrell Williams has his life story being portrayed in LEGO form (clip) I’m intrigued. The movie is called – Piece by Piece – but isn’t due out until the fall – to be specific – October 11th. The movie includes some entertainers like Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, and Snoop Dogg (clip) Again, it’s the story about Pharrell Williams called Piece by Piece. I love me some LEGOS. I was fortunate enough to have my mom save all of mine and then I was able to pass them along to my son. So, he got to play with them. I did keep one of my favorites though.

(“You are so disappointing on so many levels”)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • (“All About That Bass” clip) Hitting the road for the first time in 7 years, this upcoming September, Meghan Trainor is bringing the entire family along for the concert ride – her husband, her brother, and her two kids – one is three, while the other one is 11 months (“Wrap Me Up” clip) Yup – I just played a Christmas song clip – in 4 months – this year’s round of new holiday music will be released. You’ve been warned. Back to Meghan (“Been Like This” clip) In March, the 1st song off her new Timeless Album was released – “Been Like This” who also had T-Pain helping out (“Been Like This” clip) The ear candy that Meghan Trainor produces is so unfair – amazing hooks. The new album – called Timeless – is out in its entirety today and the song being pushed by Spotify is “Whoops” (“Whoops” clip)
  • Charli XCX has stated that she was destined to create this recent sixth album of hers (“Von Dutch” clip) On Twitter or X – take your pick (FKA means? – play a cut of that “360” song) – on social media, she posted “i was born to make dance music.. i came from the clubs . . . xcx6 is the album i’ve always wanted to make.” (brat picture) That’s the album cover for BRAT – she likes doing the all lower case thing too. (brent picture) Not the same thing, huh. The BRAT album is out in its entirety. Pitchfork review is already in and it received an 8.6 – doing very well. Here’s the recent single – “Talk Talk” (clip)
  • Fuller – I’ve said it before, but this guy is a musical machine. His debut album from 2022 has been out . . . since well, 2022 (“Never Better” clip) BUT – ever since the first of the year, he has released 12 new songs – that’s like an entire album. Something is coming right? (clip) By the way, if you go to his website, I’ll provide a link. I like his warning at the bottom: A LOWLIFE’S GUIDE TO FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – Please don’t buy any of this shit if you don’t have the money. Pay your bills, buy your groceries, then buy everything in the store. Ok, love you, bye 🙂 – That’s great. Fuller’s newest release is called “I Don’t Wanna Let U Go” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Bon Jovi (Clip) yeah, that Bon Jovi – new album dropped called Forever – go get your Jersey on // Megan Thee Stallion announced her new album Megan will arrive on June 28th. She describes this album as being a “rebirth,” taking inspriation from snakes because of how they shed their skin to evolve. What? I don’t think if I read that any slower it would make any more sense. // Soccer Mommy has been playing new material at her ongoing Lost Shows, but now she has officially released one of those new songs called “Lost” (clip of Travolta) Sorry wrong button – “Lost” (clip)

As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from , Falling in Reverse with Jelly Roll, Fake a Smile, and Gracie Adams – I really liked that one! Beside -if I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

(“Show Me How to Live” cut)

25 years ago, Rick Rubin introduced Tom Morello to Chris Cornell.

If that interaction never occurred, we never would have experienced – Audioslave.

(“Show Me How to Live” cut)

Today’s quote of the day is from Rick Rubin who does have a book out called:

The Creative Act: A Way of Being – that would be a wonderful Father’s Day gift.

“Glory Days” cut

That’s probably my favorite Bruce Springsteen song of all time. Love the song, Love the video. On this date, 40 years ago – that’s 1984 – Bruce Springsteen released the album – Born in the USA.

“Born in the USA” cut

So, today’s quote of the day, I think you know who it’s coming from. That’s right – Phil Collins. I’m kidding.

Please subscribe on YouTube and spread the Babble wherever you can – Thank you!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“It’s not the time in your life, it’s the life in your time.” – by Bruce Springsteen

For all you quote geeks (like me) – I realize that Abe Lincoln said something along these same lines. I just like the way The Boss did it.

(“Pumped Up Kicks” Clip)

That is such a good song – “Pumped Up Kicks” from Foster the People. Back in 2010, lead guy Mark Foster wrote & released that song as a free download, while he was working as a commercial jingle writer. The band had a new song come out on Friday that I missed.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

Paradise State of Mind is scheduled for release this summer on August 16th. To give us an early taste of what the band is doing, they released the disco-sounding “Lost In Space.”

(“Lost in Space” Clip)

Foster the People – I should have seen this one on Friday, but did not and that is why we have this Missed Music Monday. See you tomorrow for Quote of the Day!

(“Sail” – AWOLNATION)

That’s the Diamond Certified single from AWOLNATION called ‘Sail’.

What’s Diamond Certified? Selling over 10 million units. That’s a lot.

(“Sail” – AWOLNATION)

Morning Babble Opener

Happy Weekend – it’s officially summer, right? Actually, June 20th is when it’s really, really here. In the meantime, we tease ourselves that this beautiful weather is summer and will be enjoying it for the following 3 months. Unfortunately, by August, I’m like this kid in the backseat. (clip) Love that kid. That’s all of August and a good part of September. Nobody likes it that hot. Normally, I have to take a shower after going out and getting the mail – it’s unfortunate. (Sweaty Balls). Unfortunately – I think there is a lot of resisting. Nobody likes to be sweating . . . there. We should do something about music, am I right?

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • At the end of March, AWOLNATION gave us the first taste of a new album to come with the song: “Panoramic View” (clip) We talked about. We liked the sound, but we didn’t have any other info. Today though, we get the announcement of the band’s fifth album: The Phantom Five. And – we also get a new song (clip) That’s “Jump. Sit. Stand. March.” from Aaron Bruno – who basically is AWOLNATION – gets some help in that song from Dead Sara’s Emily Armstrong. I know someone out there is concerned about Sara being dead. That’s a band – Dead Sara. Anyway, back to AWOLNATION – that new album arrives on August 30th . . . to help close out the summer. You know, the sweaty part of summer.
  • (“Without Me” clip) 51-year-old rapper – Eminem – 51, huh. That’ my age. He’s a little more advanced than me in his successes. (Hold up the subscribe card – You can do it!) Eminem has released a single and music video for the song “Houdini” (clip) The video has cameos from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Pete Davidson as Em is remincising about some of his most iconic moments in video. (another clip) One last note – the album is most likely to be called: The Death of Slim Shady. Unfortunately, we don’t have an official release date. Fortunately, the rumor is that it should land this summer.
  • (“Spaghetti” cut) That song is off of Beyonce’s powerhouse album – Cowboy Carter. Helping out on that “Spaghetti” song (that’s the name) is Shaboozey (clip) Annnnnd – Shaboozey has an album of his own out now called Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going – throw rock, hip-hop, and country into a blender and you’ve got this album (clip) Just released in April – That’s “A Bar Song” (Tipsy) which was a huge hit. Today on Spotifiy, the newest tune being pushed has the help of Miley’s younger sister, Noah Cyrus. The song is called “My Fault” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: I talked about this before – Wilco has a six song EP arriving at the end of June . . . we were hoping for a new song from it but we now must patiently await its arrival /// Via Pitchfork, I learned: Beastie Boys’ classic 1994 album, Ill Communication, is getting a special deluxe edition reissue on vinyl to celebrate its 30th anniversary. 30 year anniversary – I was 21. Holy old. /// A band that I follow and like is bby. They have a new song out. It’s got a bad word in it. It’s “Messed Up” – go listen on the Spotify playlist /// And lastly, Snoop Dogg (clip) he has a Cali To Canada Tour beginning on June 3rd. To go along with it now, he teamed up with Warren G for a song called “Cali 2 Canada” (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
