Morning Babble Intro

Happy Snowy Weekend at least here in the NE. Lots of sledding . . . by the kids. From our deck, I can see the hill that the kids fly down. (clip)

So, if my son catches a cold, you all know why.

All good then. I can stay inside and fill up my Barry glass.

Back to my earlier comment of the Black Pumas and their show – amazing. (clip)

At the Filmore in Philadelphia / Got food and beverage prior to the show at Other Half Brewery – delish.

Black Pumas – Two guys – Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada (ka – sada)

Adrian – older dude – looks like Walter Matthau (ma – tau) (clip)

But damn, he can play the guitar. Didn’t Walter Matthau hook up with Sophia Loren one of those Grumpy Old Men Movies? (clip)

Eric Burton – what a breath of fresh air. Just glowed. Smiles all night. That voice.

Leather pants / Got my tight pants on (clip)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • This is one of the albums that I’ve been waiting for in the new year (clip) Some people weren’t really looking forward to it, but I do love me some Green Day. The album is Saviors and we’ve gotten to taste it over the past couple months with 4 songs that they have shared from it. BUT – there’s 11 more and, if my math is real good, that’s 15 in all. Also, this past week, the band did a bit with late night guy – Jimmy Fallon – where they surprised people in a New York subway with one of their classics (clip) Again, that’s Saviors – I’ve already listened to it all and I’m going to do it again and again this weekend (Meg Ryan clip)
  • Today, we received an acoustic live album from a band that I have multiple vinyl of and have seen several times in concert (clip) Band of Horses – this new album or volume has been 10 years in the making – it’s called Acoustic at The Ryman Vol. 2 because Volume 1 came out back in 2014. By the way, the Ryman Auditorium is one of the most iconic music stages located in Nashville, Tennessee on the edge of 5th Avenue North since its inception in 1881. Just about everyone has performed there, well not me, but important people and now Band of Horses have two volumes of albums to prove it (clip)
  • Last year – all the way back 2 months ago in November – Dolly Parton released a 30-track album called Rockstar – all kinds of studs and studdettes on there. Sting, Joan Jett, Chris Stapleton, Miley Cyrus (clip). And now, the deluxe album of Rockstar is out where we get an additional 9 songs and one of those includes the band Maneskin singing with Dolly on her song “Jolene” (clip) I won’t lie. One of my favorite renditions of “Jolene” is with the incredible twosome of Jack White on Vocals & Guitar and Meg White on Drums – also known as The White Stripes (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: One of my favorites to chill with – Mat Kearney – released “Headlights Home” – not sure of a whole album yet, so I won’t be greedy and simply take this single // Taylor Swift’s bud – Jack Antonoff – his band, Bleachers has a new song out – “Tiny Moves” – full album on March 8th // Nicki Minaj has a new song out called “Press Play” and features Future. Did we find a clip that we can play? Only Nicki – that works. (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

“Not even half way through January and I’m playing that song and thinking of warmer weather. Is that really snow for Tuesday. I am so ready for June-uary. (off to the side) Does that even make sense?”

Morning Babble Intro

New Music Friday:

Happy Weekend! Survived the first full workweek of the new year. How about them goals? Keeping the focus? I have to say I’m excited because I was able to add something to my morning routine arsenal to help me Win the Day.

To go along with my morning journal entry, I enjoy a good Daily Reading

The Vagabond’s Way: 366 Meditations on Wanderlust, Discovery, and the Art of Travel  – from Rolf Potts

The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living  – from Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman

The Daily Pressfield – from Steven Pressfield

Let’s just jump into it and go (running man clip) NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • This first one I’m really psyched on because I had no idea that they were coming out with something new. The Black Keys (Loney Boy) – that’s not the new song, that was “Lonley Boy”. BUT – coming out on April 5th is Ohio Players – the duo’s first full-length album since 2022’s Dropout Boogie. Now, the first song was actually co-written by Beck (Two Turntables) I don’t believe Beck is actually on this song, but simply helped scribble it out. However, if rumor has it, Beck does appear on another track along with rapper Juicy J. We don’t get that one today. The one we do get is “Beautiful People (Stay High)” (clip)
  • An album that I did know was arriving this year in 2024 was Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations by The Vaccines. We’ve already gotten several songs from the album last year – like 4. Don’t worry – there’s another six to enjoy. I’ve listened to them and my ears perked up to “Another Nightmare.” (clip) However, the one that Spotify is highlighting and the band came out for another video for is “Discount De Kooning” (clip)
  • Judah & the Lion made the announcement of their new album: The Process coming out in its entirety on May 10th. This is the band’s fifth full-length effort and the follow-up to 2022’s Revival. Posted on Instagram (clip) the band stated “One of our most difficult records to write as we aired out our struggles with grieving. You’re not alone, and we hope this record helps you feel that.” Here’s a clip of the released new track, “Is What It Is” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Missed this one last week – Liam Gallagher and Stone Roses guitarist John Squire are doing a little project together and shared a new song – “Just Another Rainbow” // Another one missed – Alkaline Trio with “Versions of You” – full album Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs arrives January 26th // The song “Hey” from Aura Davis comes along with a new video too. That sofa looks like the place to hang out (clip) // 21 Savage – new album is out: American Dream // Lil Nas X surprised us with a new song and video called “J Christ” – that’s right, singing about JC – wasn’t he a Backstreet Boy? // Via Rolling Stone, I saw that Suki Waterhouse was channeling France’s greatest & most popular singers Edith (eh deet) Piaf in the video for her new song “OMG” (clip)
