But it’s really, really close

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Back on April 29th, Willie Nelson turned 90. That’s a birthday celebration with a whole lot of birthday cake . . . and brownies. Well, they recorded it and are playing it back for all of us on Sunday night, December 17th. Held in LA – where else? – it featured performances from Nelson himself (making him work on his birthday), plus Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg, Norah Jones, Beck (clip) – that song from Beck is of course a Willie cover – “Hands on the Wheel.” This event took place on Willie’s actual birthday of April 29th and the April 30th – a two day event. Back to all the performers, you’ll also get to hear Miranda Lambert, Dave Matthews, Chris Stapleton. and while Gary Clark Jr. plays on guitar, Leon Bridges covering the Willie song “Night Life” (clip) The album has officially dropped and is called Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 (Live at the Hollywood Bowl) – 53 songs, over 3 hours of music. (clip – Happy Birthday Willie)
  • The Talbott Brothers – I’ve talked about these guys before (“Dancing in the Dark” clip) That’s them doing the Springsteen cover of “Dancing in the Dark.” However, tis the season for some holiday tunes and they’ve done it in the past and have done it well, so why not do it again (clip) It’s called “That Spirit of Christmas.” I was amused by the cover (pix) Looking so good guys (pix) Did my mom send that in?
  • We go from one fun album cover to another (clip) Ehhh – that’s a different kind of fun. Reneé Rapp teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion for that new song: “Not My Fault” – it’s first single from the official soundtrack for the upcoming Mean Girls movie due out in Jan. //
  • Several quick hits of new music: Wilmington DE native – Richard Raw – has dropped a new album called: The Crown. He was recently featured in the Delaware Magazine Out & About – click here // Lil Baby closing out 2023 with a 2-pack of new songs – we get “Crazy” and “350″ // Sammy Rash came out with another new song called “you+me” – that dude is a song machine! // And finally, 65 years after it’s “new music” release, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is officially the most popular song in the U.S. (clip)

Did we all survive yesterday? Apparently, it wasn’t just any ordinary Monday but, in fact, international “Break Up Day.” One of the most common days for couples to give up on their relationships. “We are so not doing the holidays together, am I right?”

The Futureheads “Skip to the End”

You know how you hear one song and it makes you think of another song. That’s why I played that song. Wait – so what song is what?

Happy Weekend – I’m so glad you’re here.

With the year coming to an end – there are so many countdowns! Best Albums of the Year, Best Songs of the Year, Best Rock Songs of the Year, Best Morning Babble episodes. No – that’s not actually one of them. But – if someone wants to do that, it will be greatly appreciated. I am trying to do this video for my top 25 Christmas songs. I’ll have to see what I can do. I want to do something, but am not sure if I can make that happen. As you all have witnessed, I have limited video editing skills / “shocking”

That’s all I got. Let’s get into this.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Green Day have shared another new song “Dilemma” this is the third preview of their new album, Saviors. That album arrives next year on January 19th – psst, that’s next month. With the single release, we get a video release as well where you get to see Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong drinking heavily at a show. Its a real “pick me up” for the weekend. Again, this is “Dilemma” (clip)
  •  The Killers have a new album out but it’s a greatest hits album. The new one that they created – was scrapped because it felt forced and not “authentic” enough. Side – hey, what did you put in that trash can over there? Anyway, we do get the greatest hits album with 20 songs and all packaged up under the title of: Rebel Diamonds. Track #20 is a new song though and it’s called “Spirits” (clip) By the way, in an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Killers lead guy Brandon Flowers explained how his first cassette that he went and spent money on was the Cars’ Greatest Hits (clip).
  • The Vaccines have an album due out early next year – January 12th to be exact. It’s called Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations. They will also be hitting the road at that same time for a series of shows in support of the new record, but you have to go to the UK to catch them – that’s where all the shows are right now. By the way, this is the song that I heard that made me think of The Futureheads and then play their song “Skip to the End” but at the very beginning of the Babble. And now that we are all confused, here’s The Vaccines with “Love To Walk Away” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Bright Eyes have shared a new cover of the John Prine song “Christmas in Prison.” Proceeds from the song will benefit the late Prine’s charity, the Hello in There Foundation // Happy Birthday, Nicki Minaj (she’s 41) and for her birthday, we all get her new album: Pink Friday 2 // Bryan Adams (cuts like a knife) Yeah, that Bryan Adams (Heavan) and that Bryan Adams. He’s got a new live album out today // Earlier this year, Nessa Barrett released her hell is a teenage girl EP. Since then, she got ghosted by some dude that scampered off to NY. In turn, she wrote a song about it. Here’s “Girl in New York” (clip)
