Recapped exercise for the day: Light mile run with my 7 year-old daughter. Afterwards, I ran 5 sprints up Kobe hill with light jog back down. These kicked my butt.

(Basket Case clip)
We’ve had Dookie for nearly 30 years. I remember listening to that album non-stop in college. I remember playing it on WVUD – the voice of the University of Delaware. This upcoming February 1st – we will officially have 30-year-old Dookie.
(2nd Basket Case clip)
Babble Opener
Green Day are reissuing Dookie on September 29th which is ahead of its official 30th year anniversary date. The new edition includes the original album, demos, outtakes, and live recordings of the band’s Woodstock ’94 set as well as a show in Barcelona from June 1994. I played Basket Case at the beginning, but there’s a ton of great music on this album: there’s When I Come Around, Welcome to Paradise, and, of course, the song that I accidentally played on an Adult Contemporary station – 99.5 WJBR – “She” (play clip) Wasn’t my fault – this was before computer tracks and the CD compilation reset to 1 and that one played. It could have worse (Longview clip)
I didn’t play that. Happy Weekend everyone / Heading to the shore this weekend and hoping to get new shades. I’ve lost a pair and broken a pair.
New Music Friday:
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!
Last weekend, the new song “Perhaps” from Guns N’ Roses leaked all across the land. (Welcome to the Jungle) – that wasn’t it. So, it leaked – at least in bars that contained TouchTunes’ digital jukeboxes where “Perhaps” appeared and could be punched up to be heard. Back in my radio days we would get these “leaks” directly from the record reps. They would show up and would hand off an unlabeled CD and say “Play this, until you receive a Cease-and-desist.” We always followed along and would, of course, eventually receive one of those warnings – radio stations would wear it as a badge of honor. Some of you are stuck on the fact that I said “CD” – yes, this was from like 25 years ago. Nothing digital. Anyway – The bands just wanted their music played and the “leaks” helped with making the news. Not sure if that’s the case again here, but in a modernized creative space. Nevertheless, according to the press release via Audacy, the song was “written and recorded by Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan this year.” This is their “first collective new composition and recording together in 30 years since 1993’s The Spaghetti Incident?”
A band that I’ve been playing non-stop lately – both their old stuff and newest stuff (show vinyl) The National have released a pair of songs, “Space Invader” which is being played live a lot during the tour as well as “Alphabet City” which has NOT gotten the live treatment. These are the National’s first songs since April’s release of First Two Pages of Frankenstein. Not sure if this is the beginnings of a new album or a possible deluxe version of this one? I’m ready for whatever. Both new songs come with visuals drawn and animated by group member Bryce Dessner’s wife Pauline de Lassus, who records music under the name Minda Tindle. Here’s a clip of “Alphabet City” (clip)
Via Jack White’s Record Company – Third Man Records – legendary 90s indie rock group Heatmiser — comprised of Elliott Smith, Neil Gust, Tony Lash, and Brandt Peterson — have announced The Music of Heatmiser which is a new, 29-song compilation of previously unheard recordings, out October 6th. Heatmiser released their first cassette, The Music of Heatmiser, at shows and local record shops in 1992. The new Third Man compilation features all six tracks from the cassette and also replicates its title and artwork. Alongside this announcement, the band have shared a version of “Lowlife” from their 1992 demo cassette along with a live video filmed during a 1993 performance in Fort Collins, CO. Here’s “Lowlife.”
Several quick hits of new music: this Tuesday – apparently – we are receiving a new song from the Black Pumas. I love those guys. Immediately went and pulled my record of their work. Don’t want to hurry the weekend along, but I’m looking forward to some new Black Pumas. // Speaking of vinyl, Broken Social Scene co-founder and lead vocalist Kevin Drew just released two new songs “Out In The Fields” and “Party Oven” which will be on his album: Aging. You can hear those songs everywhere today, but this is where it gets interesting – Physical copies of the album will be available September 22nd; it hits digital streaming platforms on November 3rd THAT would be incredible for the vinyl industry if more artists would do that. // and lastly, just so everyone can hear me say “booty”. Doechii released a new song called “Booty Drop.” (clip)

Lyell and Baby Bugs collaborated on a single called “Just My Type”
Olivia Rodrigo dropped the 2nd single to her GUTS album (Sept 8th). “Bad Idea Right?”
Well, Val Astaire has an album called – Everything Good Must Happen Somewhere Else – coming out Sept 8th. But today, we get to hear and see the song “Little Animal.” Tyler is the young man who rocked it in this video with his uncle.
Another Sammy Rash song came out. I first head this guy opening for Fitz and the Tantrums. When my 7 year old heard us talking about him, she said, “Hey – I listen to him.” Here’s the new one: “I Love Summer.”
When I can list the names DJ Khaled, Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert and then say that they are all on a song together? Do I really need to say anything else except for the name of the song? “Supposed to be Loved”

Pearl Jam – Even Flow cut
That’s Pearl Jam with Even Flow – I heard it the other day in the grocery store while getting some meat for dinner.
More Pearl Jam – Even Flow cut
Babble Opener
That joke about the grocery store music becoming more and more your music as you get older . . . it is happening . . . it was 8am with Pearl Jam blaring in the grocery store aisle. // I’m just glad it’s actual Pearl Jam music. Not like some Kidz Bop station with some cover band named Diamond Jelly that plays Pearl Jam.
Happy Weekend everyone!

First up – Peter Gabriel (Hi there). This August is a special time for full moons – we get two of them this month – August 1st and August 30th. This past Full Moon Tuesday, Peter Gabriel released another song “Olive Tree” – you see what he’s been doing this year is releasing a new song for every new full moon. A full moon occurs about once a month or, 29.53 days on average. BUT – in 2023, we get 13 full moons which means 13 new songs from Mr. Peter Gabriel. Actually, more though – he does a bright side and a dark side of each song. It’s a lot. Bottomline – the newest song out today is the bright-side version of “Olive Tree.” (clip)
The band – The Maine – have released their 9th studio album and went all out with the title – it’s called The Maine. I always want album titles to mean something – whatever. BUT – the number 8123 means something. They released this album on Tuesday 8-1-23. Back in the day, 8123 were the numbers on a parking garage where the band members and childhood friends would hangout growing up. Fast forward to now and 8123 has been used in their song lyrics, is the title of their own music festival, can be seen tatted up on many of their fans, is the title of their own record label and, of course, serves as the fanbase’s nickname: the 8123 Family. Alright – MUSIC – we’ve already gotten several of these songs released earlier, so I was just looking over the list to see what jumped out to me (Goodfellas cut) “Funny How?” jumped out to me because of Goodfellas (More Goodfellas cut), but once I listened to it . . . it’s more love song than Joe Pesci getting feisty (clip)
Quick Hits: The band Sheer Mag were just signed by Third Man Records (Jack White’s record company) and they put out a new song & video today called “All Lined Up” // Wilco have announced their new album Cousin with the lead single “Evicted.” The album—due out September 29th. // Doja Cat released a song called “Paint the Town Red” (clip)
