Not an EDC video but what’s in my wallet? / Amor Fati coin & Maiale card / Quote via Robin Sharma

morning babble / Saturday 10-23-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Knocked out my run already – #296 of 5K runs. Next week on Wednesday – I’ll hit #300 AND it looks like I’ll surpass 1000 miles for the year.

Lots of EDC videos out there. EDC is everyday carry. What are you bringing with you everyday? Well, today, I said that I’ll do “What’s in my wallet?” as I’m going to attempt to transition out of this one wallet and into another.

Amor Fati – Latin phrase that may be translated as “love of fate” or “love of one’s fate”. Basically, loving everything that happens to you / embracing whatever happens. We have a tendency that when something bad happens – woe is me. Why me?

The coin – Marcus Aurelius’s timeless wisdom: “A blazing fire makes flame and brightness out of everything that is thrown into it.” Link to get one.

Maiale Deli card . . . I got to go get me a Mexicano Sandwich today!

Reboot Time: Munsters with Rob Zombie and Home Alone / New Music Friday with Pink Laundry / Sean Paul / Mimi Webb

morning babble / Friday 10-22-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

#295 of the 5K runs

Who lives at 1313 Mockingbird Lane? The Munsters, of course. Mr. Rob Zombie is putting together a reboot of the famous television family. Won’t be out this year. But – it’s coming. Here’s a link for pictures.

The reboot that is occurring this year is Home Alone coming to Disney Plus on November 12th. According to a post from Macaulay Culkin – he’s not in it. But Kevin McCallister’s big brother – Buzz is back. Here’s a link to the trailer.

New Music Friday:

  • I have a Morning Babble Wake-up Playlist on Spotify – I’ll provide a link. But I added this song to it today – “Gucci” by Pink Laundry. I’ve talked about them before . . . or just him? This is Judah Akers from the band – Judah & The Lion, whose last album was Pep Talks back in 2019. Pink Laundry has several singles out. I’m not sure on a full album. BUT – I totally dug this new song. Again, it’s called “Gucci”.
  • One of my all time favorites – Mr. Jack White is back with his first new solo track in nearly four years, “Taking Me Back.” White has released a song he contributed to the video game Call of Duty: Vanguard. White produced the single at Third Man Studios in Nashville. He also did a stripped-down version called “Taking Me Back (Gently).” No word on an entire album, but I’m sure hoping!
  • To date, Sia only has one Hot 100 chart-topper as a performer – 2016’s Sean Paul-assisted ‘Cheap Thrills.’ Five years later, the duo switch positions (putting Paul at the helm) with hopes of repeating the feat via the explosive new single, ‘Dynamite.’ This will be off of Sean Paul’s upcoming album – Scorcher. Due out this year. And yes – 2nd album release of the year as the album Live and Livin came out earlier this year. Busy Dude.
  • Alright – I’m not familiar with this one – Mimi Webb. I really liked her voice on the single that I heard today “Halfway.” After reading up on her – she’s not really “new” – they were more than ready for this album drop. Seven Shades of Heartbreak – EP with 7 songs. I’m excited to hear the rest of it.
  • HOLIDAY MUSIC – Brett Eldredge has another Christmas album. This one follows his first holiday album, Glow, originally released in 2016 and then re-released as a deluxe album in 2018 with five additional tracks. Today though, we get Mr. Christmas including one of my favorites “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. Nobody does it like Andy Williams though. You also get Rudolph, Jingles Bells – total of 11 songs. By the way, he was at The Met in Philly last night.

Happy Friday Eve! / Pants are on the way / Chase Jarvis – contender for GOAT

morning babble / Thursday 10-21-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Friday Eve! Yes – I am really happy it’s here. They say that if you love what you do than every day is something to look forward to. I am so happy it is Friday Eve!

Oh – a quick note about my pants. People reached out and were concerned and I appreciate that. They wanted to make sure that I had more than one pair and wouldn’t be washing them every night (who left tissues in their pants pockets?). You see – I said that I had to find a new pair of cargo pants and I did. I was test driving for the week. So, more are arriving later today. I’ll be okay. Regular routine uniform – I’ll be just like Steve Jobs but alive and no black turtleneck.

I ran! #294. Was that mean? I need more sleep. Did I mention that it’s Friday Eve?

Listening to Chase Jarvis and his podcast – always great stuff. He was saying how life was a “a series of nows” – I say, “Enjoy the now.” I’m going to announce another GOAT to my list next week. Mr. Chase Jarvis is in the running. If you want to talk about it Chase, I’ll text you and we can set up a time.

So, GOAT announcement next week. Tomorrow – New Music Friday. Saturday – change the wallet and you see what I carry around. Sunday – house library tour. Hmm – sounds like a lot. See you Monday!

I got new pants! / Seinfeld Wallet / Morning Babble wear? / Jon Acuff quote

morning babble / Wednesday 10-20-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

I got new pants! Actually wore them yesterday / washed them in the overnight / toasty warm in the morning. I need more. Didn’t want to jinx it yesterday by mentioning that I finally found my new cargo pants, but I did! 2 more pairs are shipping to me right now! All customers of mine can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that I’ll now be showing up in pants again (before it was shorts).

Morning Babble wear? Hmmmmmm.

What’s in your wallet? EDC (Everyday Carry)? I’ll transition my wallet on Saturday.

It’s not “100%” gone – yet / Is it Jack Black or Jack White? / Carl Jung quote

morning babble / Tuesday 10-19-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

So, I listen to a lot of podcasts and, in turn, interviews as well. I feel fairly confident in stating that the “100%” answer is nearly done with.

I ran #292 of 5K running.

Working on something for November. April Drought / Cold Shower July. I think I’ve got something for November. If that does through, then I do have a follow-up for December as well. Working on some things though first – get things in place before announcing.

Looking at my past list of goals for the year. Start up BJJ again – that probably won’t happen until January. Learn the guitar. Interesting. I have always wanted to be able to simply sit and strum away. We all watched Jack Black in School of Rock and my daughter got inspired. We had bought Elliott this little guitar that he could learn on – nothing. But, she’s enjoying it. My wife actually has a Fender Guitar – really nice. That would be an interesting father/daughter lesson to set up. Not quite sure how I could do that, but something I’ll look in to.

Jack White has a new song! YES – does that mean a new album – no idea. Hoping to learn more as Friday gets closer.

blah, blah, blah

Muddy Monday via MUD\WTR / Daylight Savings – let’s do it already / A quote via Mark Manson

morning babble / Monday 10-18-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Getting colder / It’s certainly getting darker all the time. Daylight Savings Time can’t get here soon enough. That should be like the old days and done before Halloween. In 2 weeks, it’s November. Also, all out holiday time. People only work 3 weeks in November and then 3 weeks again in December.

Got my MUD going again today since I do have a paperwork day. I haven’t taken this stuff on my road days yet. Not sure why. The pour over for coffee takes longer. Go get your own muddy drink by clicking here!

Run #291 of my 5K runs / Next week I’ll be hitting over 300. Remember 366 is the goal. So – that’s through January 1st.

I didn’t get a chance to write at all this weekend BUT I am hoping to get back onto schedule and write again tonight. Not sure if it will be towards my book. I just want to write – be creative. Don’t stop! That’s the trick. Keep going / Keep working on something.

Books on a Sunday: David Sedaris via Dax Shepard podcast / Enjoying David Chang on Ugly Delicious

morning babble / Sunday 10-17-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Weird thing – David Chang – one of my “goats” and just yesterday, I finally watched an entire episode of Ugly Delicious on Nexflix. Loved it. Lately, my wife has been into watching Gilmore Girls and I . . . have not. So, I now might have something to counter her with as she stares off into her iPad. Granted, I’ll watch it on my phone. But – I’m all in. Chang has a new book out too. It’s a cookbook called Cooking at Home. On the Christmas list.

So, I’m dressed and ready for the day. Meeting up with my man, Cecil. Ideas will be flowing! Love that time together with him. Bringing my Donald Duck journal – all kinds of scribbled ideas in there. Not Daffy.

Oh – real quick – #290 of the 5K runs.

Books (and a Magazine) on a Sunday!

  • Rolling Stone – only magazine that I still subscribe to.
  • David Sedaris – just heard him on Dax Shepard’s podcast “Armchair Expert” – forget about that show over there on Spotify. Love the music on Spotify, but I typically get my podcasts elsewhere and recently Dax went exclusively to Spotify. For all that $, I would too. ANYWAY – back to Sedaris. I was first introduced to him by my wife in the book – Naked. I think a great one to tap the water with is Holidays on Ice.

Pause button pushed / How to properly eat a butterscotch krimpet from Tastykake / Ray Bradbury quote

morning babble / Saturday 10-16-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

No coffee today. I’ve got my Lapsand Souchang Black Tea going on. Also, I have some Butterscotch Krimpets remaining. You know how to eat them? I’ll show you at the end.

I haven’t run yet. #289 of my 5K runs will take place on the trails outside. Looking forward to feeling the sun. Maybe a little too much warmth from it for this time of year, but I’ll take it. Also, an update about the upcoming Blue Hen Homecoming 5K Race that’s next Wednesday – I’m not doing. Sorry, Doc – I meant to text you yesterday. I’ve got nobody to watch the kids as I run, BUT more importantly, the work issue has that day totally messed up for me now. I’ll be lucky to get home in time for my wife to get onto her class. Good times. I wish I could, but priorities of the business have to come first in cases like this.

More updates – sadly, I am pausing the 30,000 word goal of the month. I’m struggling in a couple of different ways. One for the time. But – two for the motivation to write Confessions of a Workaholic during a time when . . . I’m unfortunately cranking it up again. Pounding a little extra java / Sleep – I did 5 hours a night this week. I did get a couple extra this morning / All my writing or reading times this week were filled with work on the computer. Watching the Eagles game on Thursday night. I set up shop with my computer there too. By the way – Miss you Zach Ertz. But anyway, back to the “pause”. I feel bad – I really do, because I don’t like this giving up in the middle but things have changed. Geez – my morning routine that I went over a couple weeks ago – all different already. I’m waking up even earlier. I’ll still write when I can. I haven’t released “Empire” and “Elevator to Girth” – so, I am excited about doing them when the window of time opens up.

Typically, I answer questions here, but I feel like I gave updates on a couple things, so – we good? Alright, how to properly eat a Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpet.

A beer from 2SP & tacos broke the Fast / Tastykake revisited / New Music Friday with Adele – enough said.

morning babble / Friday 10-15-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Officially broke the fast with an IPA beer “Up & Out” from 2SP Brewing Company – Two Stones Pub (I recently posted about their double IPA New England Style beer “Up Up & Away” – holy cow, I still can’t believe it’s a double). I actually had the beer poured in a glass and the food was tacos. But – we had to make the tacos and had all the fixings laid out before us. I was impatient and it was past the 6:10pm mark, so took a swig of the beer. Amazing how much you can sense with that first taste after a 3 Day Fast.

Countdown to 30,000 words – woo – tough week with work and no break is coming yet. We’re hiring. So, I’m still 18,211. I might have to make a decision on this – more on that tomorrow. I’ll explain.

I ran – #288 of the 5K runs for the year.

New Music Friday:

  • It’s official: Adele’s first album in six years is out next month. It’s called 30 and its out November 19th. What’s that Johah Hill Scream Meme? Yeah, that one. Adela said that, while 30 is not a divorce album, the album addresses her split from her now ex-husband, partly for her son’s benefit. “I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness. It made him really unhappy sometimes. And that’s a real wound for me that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to heal.” First single can now be heard it it’s entirety . . . not a tease anymore. Go listen to “Easy on Me” – all of it. Again, full album next month – November 19th.
  • Coldplay – new album – Music of the Spheres is all out. We’ve gotten several singles already but now we get the whole thing with 12 tracks of music. The interesting news from Coldplay is about their world tour. They declined to tour on their previously released album Everyday Life for environmental reasons. So, the band has pledged to cut tour emissions by 50 percent and each show will be powered exclusively by renewable energy. They plan to eliminate “significantly more CO2 than the tour produces” with initiatives including the planting of one tree for each ticket sold. Ten percent of all tour earnings will enter a fund for “environmental and socially conscious causes”
  • New Music Brent Favorite – I mentioned before a couple weeks that Elbow will be releasing their ninth studio album, Flying Dream 1, on November 19 2021. We already got “The Seldom Seen Kid” but today we get another single called “Six Words.” I love their sound.
  • Another Brent Favorite – Band of Horses have announced that they’re returning with a new album in 2022. January 21st we get it. It’s called – Things Are Great. Today we get the new song “Crutch.” My son’s first concert. He was like 7? Yeah, everyone was looking at us.
  • I talked about this Christmas music last week, but back then it was only singles that were released. Today – full album drops from Norah Jones, I Dream Of Christmas. She’s quoted as saying, “I’ve always loved Christmas music but never had the inclination to make a holiday album until now,” Jones said. “Last year I found myself listening to James Brown’s Funky Christmas and Elvis’s Christmas Album on Sundays during lockdown for a sense of comfort. In January 2021, I started thinking about making a Christmas album of my own. It gave me something fun to work on and look forward to. website link “Christmas Calling” was the single previously released, but now you get all 13 holiday tunes.
  • And yes, the other one that I talked about was Kelly Clarkson with When Christmas Comes Around. Last week we could hear “Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You)” but today we can hear all 15-song collection features Ariana Grande (“Santa Can’t You Hear Me”), Chris Stapleton (“Glow”) and Brett Eldredge (“Under the Mistletoe”). In addition to original cuts, the set will feature covers of classics like “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “Santa Baby” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”
  • And next Friday . . . more holiday albums . . . hear they come!

Final Day of 3 Day Fast! / Story that explains why the Eagles won the Super Bowl / Einstein quote

morning babble / Thursday 10-14-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

3rd Day of the 3 Day Fast – 6:10pm cannot come soon enough. Brushing teeth – so good. Putting on deodorant. I didn’t taste it. Could you imagine that being the reason I broke my fast. Old Spice Deodorant – Fiji Scent. Fiji Taste?

It was February 4, 2018, when the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots met in the Super Bowl. It was around 9:35pm during the game — and TOUCHDOWN, Patriots: Tom Brady to Gronk. Extra Point was made. Patriots took the lead 33-32. My daughter was done. At this point in time, she was 3 (whoops – 2 years and 4 months) and sound asleep on me. Saddened by the Patriots taking their first lead of the game, I slowly got up and left the room. After climbing the steps and turning into her bedroom, she stirred a little, but definitely not awake. I then laid her down in her crib and began my tip toe away. “Daddy!” I froze. “I don’t want to go to bed.” I replied that it’s been a long day – it’s okay, get some sleep or whatever I said back then for a 3 year old (again – 2 years and 4 months). She then stated firmly, “I want to watch the Eagles win the Super Bowl.” I stood there for a second as pride began to fill throughout me. I answered, “Yes you do.” We returned to the room and every one was surprised seeing her again. I then re-explained what I’m explaining now. They all agreed.

Zach Ertz touchdown / Brandon Graham forcing Tom Brady to fumble / Jake Elliott FG

Finally at 10:17pm, Tom Brady’s Hail Mary attempt on the last play of the game fell incomplete. The Eagles won their first Super Bowl by the score of 41-33.

You can see the breakdown of the whole game by clicking here.

I ran. #287 of this year’s 5K runs.
