New Music Friday with Ed Sheeran, Spoon, The Talbott Brothers / Jamie Foxx story via Tim Ferriss & quote

Ben & Jerry’s ice cream was enjoyed last night: Change is Brewing. The new flavor features cold brew coffee ice cream, marshmallow swirls and fudge brownies. Trouble getting my coffee yesterday on the road: 2 Dunkins and 1 Starbucks – closed. No help. I hit a Wawa.

I ran #302 on the mill. 5K every day.

New Music Friday:

  • Ed Sheeran released his fifth studio album today, = (pronounced equals). Several singles have already been released throughout the summer, but today we get all 14 cuts – nearly 50 minutes of Ed. One of my favorite podcast shows from Tim Ferriss podcast was when he had Jamie Foxx on – I’ll provide links. Jamie was talking about how Ed Sheeran slept on his floor for 6 weeks (23:00) Ed came over from London and wanted to do this live show in LA that Foxx was a head of. He warned Ed that it’s mostly black and that they don’t care about London and the accent. Ed’s response – “I think I’ll be okay”. Ed Sheeran walks up with his red hair and a ukulele within 12 minutes standing ovation.
  • From Philly – Japanese Breakfast, who I talked about earlier this year when they released the Jubilee album back in June. They (or in particular – Michelle Zauner performed for Spotify’s Live at Electric Lady EP series. An 8 pack of goodness, but one song. she covered Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So”. Very well done.
  • Death Cab for Cutie released a deluxe reissue of their 2001 studio LP The Photo Album – 20th anniversary. You get 35 remastered tracks that includes studio outtakes, unreleased songs, rarities, UK B-sides, demos, and more. Vinyl will arrive in spring 2022. Death Cab always holds an odd place in my heart with music. Their album Plans (2005) was the first album I purchased on an iPod.
  • New Music from The Talbott Brothers – I talked about these guys back in March when I heard the Boss’ song “Dancing in the Dark” – via their album Acoustic Selections From Ghost Talker. Today, we get the single “Open Sky” as described on their website: it’s about wanting what you can’t have and learning to let it go. Striving to be happy with the choices you’ve made and find contentment without settling. There is a longing that keeps us up a night, wondering if we took the road less traveled or if the grass is just always gonna seem greener on the other side.
  • Brent Favorite: Spoon have announced a new record arriving early next year. Lucifer on the Sofa, their 10th album, is out February 11. They did a video for the record’s first single, “The Hardest Cut.” I read this on Pitchfork about what lead singer Britt Daniel’s described the album as “the sound of classic rock as written by a guy who never did get Eric Clapton.”
  • HOLIDAY MUSIC – I missed this one last week. As a kid, Rob Thomas always thought December 26th was the saddest day of the year. This past summer he finally decided that he wanted to do a Christmas album. It wasn’t long before Thomas was decking out his home studio with lights, playing holiday movies and “living Christmas for the whole summer,” while recording Something About Christmas Time the 10-track collection is comprised of originals tracks and covers including Bryan Adams’ “Christmas Time”.

morning babble / Thursday 10-28-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Yesterday – I hit 300 runs / surpassed 1000 miles for the year so far / AND next month is MUDDY NOVEMBER. No coffee / No espresso / No lattes / Nothing from the bean

Today – I’m announcing another GOAT to add my list of people who have had a tremendous effect on me. This guy – I’ve read his book / I enjoy his podcasts / BUT – I had to overcome something that he just couldn’t help. He reminded me of a former morning show guy (radio) that I had to sit in on as he was fired. My boss at the time was nervous to how he would react, so since I was the assistant and was taking BJJ – I was called in to sit in and witness. I then had to escort him out. Stop laughing everyone. Anyway. My GOAT simply looked like this other person, but I got past it. Chase Jarvis is my new GOAT.

I got another interview tomorrow . . . I’ll keep you all posted. Spread the Babble!

Nothing from the Coffee Bean – no coffee, no espresso, no lattes . . . sadly, no holiday lattes until December. We have some cold brew ice cream in the freezer – gotta finish that this weekend.

Now – caffeine – I’m going to have my Lapsang Souchong Black Tea especially during my 3 Day Fast since the Mudwater would break the fast

I ran – #299 – in a row! 5K everyday!

I’m still thinking about the next GOAT:

  1. James Clear – haven’t read his book, but I love his newsletter
  2. Mark Manson – haven’t read his book, but love his posts and weekly emails. His book though – there’s a copy of it in my mother-in-law’s house library. Pre-covid – I was reading it.
  3. David Goggins – I listened to his book and it was probably the best audio book ever. I was ready to run through walls after listening to that.
  4. Chase Jarvis – I did read his book and I love his podcasts, AND he did reach out to me yesterday via text

Tomorrow – I’ll announce my next personal challenge. It’s not earth shattering. Well, I guess it is if you really know me.

Back at it on a Monday – I didn’t have enough water yesterday. Sorta had a different day and found myself without my water bottles at times. I need like a good 64 oz of water.

My muscles feel achy. Felt like I was going to pull something with each stride. Back was tightening up. Some people would call it old. I just needed more water.

#298 of 5K runs!

Announcing a GOAT this week / I’ve got a new challenge for myself that I’ll begin next Monday. Announce that later this week too.

Updated my Morning Babble Wake-up Playlist slightly. Added the Pink Laundry “Gucci” as well as Jack White with “I’m Shakin'”

I’m amazed how sitting down and hearing The Fratellis “Six Days in June” and I am so ready to this babble time.

Books on a Sunday w/ Brian Michael Bendis / Gotta work. For help, I call Mr. February aka Dave Cruise / Quote via possible GOAT – Mark Manson

morning babble / Sunday 10-24-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Library tour – delayed. The house has a pet bird. “Buddy” – it’s my son’s. Jenday Conure. Gets very loud when you are in the library with him, which is fine, BUT – the rest of the house is still asleep right now, so I gotta do the video at a more ideal time and then play it back. So, I’ll prep that at some point this week. Then, next Sunday will be the goal again – Halloween Sunday.

Quick wallet update / moved the Amor Fati coin from the outside pocket, so it doesn’t look like I’m carrying around a condom. It’s now dropped into the center of the wallet with the cash.

I’m heading out early today because I have to get another vehicle from my PA workshop and get it to my DE workshop. Needed a ride. Who do I call? Mr. February aka Dave Cruise. Go support Philadoptables!

I’m excited to be able to pick his brain on the video that my son and I will be doing for the recap of my July Cold Showers.

Books!

  • Before bed each night, I have been reading a comic from one of my favorite comic book writers, Brian Michael Bendis. It’s Scarlet Book One. He also wrote the Jessica Jones series.
  • Passing along to Mr. February (Dave Cruise) – Preacher by Garth Ennis
  • My OWN Journal – it’s been a goal and I talk about it

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Knocked out my run already – #296 of 5K runs. Next week on Wednesday – I’ll hit #300 AND it looks like I’ll surpass 1000 miles for the year.

Lots of EDC videos out there. EDC is everyday carry. What are you bringing with you everyday? Well, today, I said that I’ll do “What’s in my wallet?” as I’m going to attempt to transition out of this one wallet and into another.

Amor Fati – Latin phrase that may be translated as “love of fate” or “love of one’s fate”. Basically, loving everything that happens to you / embracing whatever happens. We have a tendency that when something bad happens – woe is me. Why me?

The coin – Marcus Aurelius’s timeless wisdom: “A blazing fire makes flame and brightness out of everything that is thrown into it.” Link to get one.

Maiale Deli card . . . I got to go get me a Mexicano Sandwich today!

Reboot Time: Munsters with Rob Zombie and Home Alone / New Music Friday with Pink Laundry / Sean Paul / Mimi Webb

morning babble / Friday 10-22-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

#295 of the 5K runs

Who lives at 1313 Mockingbird Lane? The Munsters, of course. Mr. Rob Zombie is putting together a reboot of the famous television family. Won’t be out this year. But – it’s coming. Here’s a link for pictures.

The reboot that is occurring this year is Home Alone coming to Disney Plus on November 12th. According to a post from Macaulay Culkin – he’s not in it. But Kevin McCallister’s big brother – Buzz is back. Here’s a link to the trailer.

New Music Friday:

  • I have a Morning Babble Wake-up Playlist on Spotify – I’ll provide a link. But I added this song to it today – “Gucci” by Pink Laundry. I’ve talked about them before . . . or just him? This is Judah Akers from the band – Judah & The Lion, whose last album was Pep Talks back in 2019. Pink Laundry has several singles out. I’m not sure on a full album. BUT – I totally dug this new song. Again, it’s called “Gucci”.
  • One of my all time favorites – Mr. Jack White is back with his first new solo track in nearly four years, “Taking Me Back.” White has released a song he contributed to the video game Call of Duty: Vanguard. White produced the single at Third Man Studios in Nashville. He also did a stripped-down version called “Taking Me Back (Gently).” No word on an entire album, but I’m sure hoping!
  • To date, Sia only has one Hot 100 chart-topper as a performer – 2016’s Sean Paul-assisted ‘Cheap Thrills.’ Five years later, the duo switch positions (putting Paul at the helm) with hopes of repeating the feat via the explosive new single, ‘Dynamite.’ This will be off of Sean Paul’s upcoming album – Scorcher. Due out this year. And yes – 2nd album release of the year as the album Live and Livin came out earlier this year. Busy Dude.
  • Alright – I’m not familiar with this one – Mimi Webb. I really liked her voice on the single that I heard today “Halfway.” After reading up on her – she’s not really “new” – they were more than ready for this album drop. Seven Shades of Heartbreak – EP with 7 songs. I’m excited to hear the rest of it.
  • HOLIDAY MUSIC – Brett Eldredge has another Christmas album. This one follows his first holiday album, Glow, originally released in 2016 and then re-released as a deluxe album in 2018 with five additional tracks. Today though, we get Mr. Christmas including one of my favorites “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. Nobody does it like Andy Williams though. You also get Rudolph, Jingles Bells – total of 11 songs. By the way, he was at The Met in Philly last night.

Happy Friday Eve! / Pants are on the way / Chase Jarvis – contender for GOAT

morning babble / Thursday 10-21-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Friday Eve! Yes – I am really happy it’s here. They say that if you love what you do than every day is something to look forward to. I am so happy it is Friday Eve!

Oh – a quick note about my pants. People reached out and were concerned and I appreciate that. They wanted to make sure that I had more than one pair and wouldn’t be washing them every night (who left tissues in their pants pockets?). You see – I said that I had to find a new pair of cargo pants and I did. I was test driving for the week. So, more are arriving later today. I’ll be okay. Regular routine uniform – I’ll be just like Steve Jobs but alive and no black turtleneck.

I ran! #294. Was that mean? I need more sleep. Did I mention that it’s Friday Eve?

Listening to Chase Jarvis and his podcast – always great stuff. He was saying how life was a “a series of nows” – I say, “Enjoy the now.” I’m going to announce another GOAT to my list next week. Mr. Chase Jarvis is in the running. If you want to talk about it Chase, I’ll text you and we can set up a time.

So, GOAT announcement next week. Tomorrow – New Music Friday. Saturday – change the wallet and you see what I carry around. Sunday – house library tour. Hmm – sounds like a lot. See you Monday!

morning babble / Wednesday 10-20-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

I got new pants! Actually wore them yesterday / washed them in the overnight / toasty warm in the morning. I need more. Didn’t want to jinx it yesterday by mentioning that I finally found my new cargo pants, but I did! 2 more pairs are shipping to me right now! All customers of mine can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that I’ll now be showing up in pants again (before it was shorts).

Morning Babble wear? Hmmmmmm.

What’s in your wallet? EDC (Everyday Carry)? I’ll transition my wallet on Saturday.
